Cards To Help Welcome Home Jordin Sparks

A huge welcome home pep rally is scheduled for Friday, May 11th at Westgate City Center for Glendale native Jordin Sparks.

Sparks, who performed the National Anthem at the inaugural regular season game at University of Phoenix Stadium last year, is one of three finalists on the Fox hit reality television show American Idol.

The city has partnered with Westgate City Center to throw a sports themed pep rally. The Arizona Cardinals, Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs, and the Valley’s other four professional sports teams will participate in the pep rally to celebrate Jordin’s success.

Additionally, Cardinals Cheerleaders, Big Red and players are scheduled to appear.

Festivities are set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with live performances from past “Arizona Idols.”

Following the performances, a procession is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. which will bring Jordin into the Westgate City Center Fountain Park, located at the north end of the retail development.

The procession will start at 91st Ave and Coyote Blvd; proceed west to White Out Way and then north to Hannah Lane.

The rally will officially begin at approximately 4:30 and last for 30-to-45 minutes. Sparks will perform some of the songs fans have watched on the show.

The event is free and open to the public.

I was hoping Jordin Sparks was another undrafted free agent we brought in.

Proud to say I've never watched that show!

I'm not too proud to say that I never miss that freakin' show.

I've been voting for Melinda since Day One, but Jordin's great.

I used to do AI for a living (listening to hundreds of vocalists' auditions), so that show brings back a lot of memories -- good and bad.

Nice, lots of publicity for the Cards as AI will show the hell out of that.

Oh please - this is freaking lame

What is this sick fascination with AI and this crap they barf up upon us. And then people suck up to these byproducts of a diseased culture and celebrate them as if they were conquering heros? WTF?

Let's have a parade for every single soldier who comes home from the Middle East before this BS. They deserve it far more than any of these yahoos

Stronzo, I agree. This is garbage. I wish the Cards weren't involved with this at all. How about focussing on winning some games?

You don't think that they have done that? I think that they have. They just aren't very good at it.

I think it has more to do with the fact Jordin sang at the Cards Stadium opener way before American Idol.. They are just giving some love back.. Plus two other things.. In Westgate they hold Jordin parties when AI is on every week and Jordin is from Glendale.. Mix all these three things together and you you see the end result..

I mean its not like Whisenhunt himself thought to do this for her, thats what the PR dept is for.. The PR dept doesnt try to figure out how to help the Cards win games, well at least I hope they dont.. Plus this will get the Cards national exposure on AI..

Why is everyone so up in arms about this??

What?
Jim,
Please tell the Cards the only thing less interesting to us would be Josh McCown playing basketball.

Gee, I completely agree with you that its the PR dept, etc and nothing to do with Whis and the players....... My sentiment comes from a industry that prepackages these "stars" and creates these heros that people go crazy over.... Millions of people spend hours each week on AI stuff from watching the show to discussing it, etc. For what? What cultural, moral, ethical value does AI bring to us except to line the pockets of Fox and the AI producers.

As I said before we should have a parade for every soldier coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan before this crap

I guess Im a bit different on this one.. I watch AI for pure comedy.. But this year with Jordin, I know her family as I went to school with her family.. Philipi bought his relatives a house right around the block from me growing up.. I been to house parties over there and all that.. Thats neither here nor there about AI other than I hope Jordin wins.. And it has nothing to do with whether the Cards are focused on winning cuz its the PR dept..

So I have a lil more invested in this I suppose and this has nothing to do with the Cards trying to win more games.. That was my point.. :D

I look at it like this: I was born and raised in AZ...for 30 years I lived there. I was brought up to root for the "home" team, no matter what... and since I still consider AZ my "home" that's what I do. It doesn't matter if it's the Cards, Suns, Paradise Valley High School, Jordin Sparks, or some other sport or celebrity. That's what I do.

As for all the soldiers in Iraq, etc (Stronzo)...my heart bleeds evertime I read or hear about another death or bombing, but it bleeds more when I hear that soldier was from AZ...I wish we could give them all heroes parades!

see for Gee I can understand cheering on for someone from the block but the throngs of lemmings that throws themselves on the feet of Aiken or any of these other people is disgusting to me

If a little community goodwill gets a single, mindless Idol watcher to become a Cards fan, it's a great idea.

Not that I'm not one of the people who do the same, but just replace "AI" with NFL, and you are talking about everyone on this board.

Just about to say the same thing. Whats the difference between people spending time and money on their favorite sports team compared to those that spent time and money on their favorite star or TV show.

I mean what cultural, moral, ethical value does the NFL bring to us except to line the pockets of owners.

Its all just entertainment nothing more nothing less.
