Cardinals | Potential Landing Spot for Cowboys' Hunter? - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 20 Apr 2005 07:17:10 -0700

Matt Mosley, of the Dallas Morning News, reports Dallas Cowboys CB Peter Hunter's agent, Ray Savage, has talked with the Arizona Cardinals about working out a possible trade to acquire him from the Cowboys.

I don't know much about this guy. What are the opinions on this one. Just listed on KFFL.

Pete Hunter would be a nice addition. He's a big, strong CB...6-2, 212...from Virginia Union...Dallas' 5th Rd. pick in 2002...and has been in the CB rotation for the Cowboys the last three years.

I don't know much about him but his stats didn't look that great. Dallas wants him to move to safety.

Also he only played in the first two games for Dallas last year. I don't know if he was hurt or what.

Depends on how Hunter would stack up compared to corners we could draft in the 3rd - 7th round anyway.

Incidently, by now it should be quite evident to all of us that KFFL trolls the www for (a) news stories, (b) team press releases and, most especially, press releases circulated by agents (presumably to make their players feel that their agent is really working hard for them).

So you'll see, for example, 4 or 5 separate releases about the same (often little known) prospect telling us that he's visiting Denver, he's visiting Cleveland, he's visiting Pittsburgh or that Baltimore "is showing interest" in him.

In the case of Hunter, this could possibly be more a case of the agent peddling the dude to some teams rather than the Cardinals showing active interest in him.

That's what I took from the article. His agent being aware that the cards are thin at CB and seeing his client with little to no playing time makes a call to the cardinals to guage interest.

When healthy Pete is not bad at all. The boys' corners have gotten sizzled over the years (including Newmann's short tenure) but Hunter rarely gets cooked for thr big play. I like him!

Hunter isnt bad and he is a very hard worker. He was on the verge of being cut in 2002 and has worked his way into the starting lineup (or at least nickel lineup) He isnt fast though.

He certainly isnt a savior but if the Boys are gonna cut him June 1st anyway maybe the Cards can get him on the cheap. He would be better than any CB the Cards would get in the 6th or 7th round anyway!

If Pete Hunter had any skills at all, the Cowboys wouldn't have ponied up $500 billion for the mediocre DB from Cleveland. Maybe for a 5th round pick, but I wouldn't give up anything other than that for the guy.

Dallas corners sucked last season.

I dunno...I dont think I would give a 5th rounder for him to be honest. He is probably gonna be cut anyway.

He is a depth signing and ST player nothing more....

Maybe we could swap 3rd or 4th for him So Cowboys would move down a couple spots. He isn't really all that impressive. I wouldn't give up too much for him, but Denny probaly knows a lot more then me about him.

Could he play the dime spot okay? Yeah, I guess. I would have said that I'd only give up a sixth-rounder for him, but we don't have one of those. Would I give up a 2006 sixth for him? I dunno. It's the same as a present 5th.

What I'd probably do is wait until he's cut and then put a waiver claim on him. We're still very high on the list. If Tennessee really wants him, they can have him.

He wasnt playing last year so he wasnt one of those sucky Dallas CB's you speak of.

When he was the main Nickel and played a lot in 2003 the Dallas D gave up 1/2(18 ) of the TD's they gave up this year(31).

He is a good Nickel, just as good of a Nickel as Hill ever was. If he passes a physical and the compensation is fair, i am all over this trade.

In the games I watched he really suprised me, I hated the game he got injured in. His back-up sucked, but when hunter was in they played more toward Newman's side. He would be a great option as a nickel corner. Maybe, we could trade LJ for Hunter and a 4th rounder.
