Carl Weathers looked so healthy in that picture taken in 2022.

Rest in Peace.

RIP.

He played linebacker in college at San Diego State University and helped them win the 1969 Pasadena Bowl with an 11-0 record under coach Don Coryell. Signed with the Raiders as an UDFA and played in seven games for them in 1970 when they reached their first ever AFC Championship game with John Madden as their coach.

Always liked him in TV shows and movies over the years. He also did some narration for NFL Films.

This one strikes right at my heart.

Apparently, he was THIS close to playing Coach Purnell on Necessary Roighness when I was writing for the show. Would have been a dream come true to get to work with him.

RIP to a legend of cinema.

Man, I loved that show of yours. Too bad it didn't continue.

For a little color, cheese was a Rocky nut as a 4-7 year old. He:

- owned a red and white robe with “Italian stallion” on it

-got “Rocky II” on the back of his tshirts instead of his name

- Video+ (pre-blockbuster) used to reserve the Rocky videotapes for a 5 year old cheesebeef until they knew which one he was renting that week. Every week.

- when my parents had dinner parties it was a not uncommon occurrence to hear the Rocky theme emanate from cheese’s 5 year old bedroom, followed by a small voice yelling “yo Adrian!” Until he would come running into the dining room in shorts, bare-chested with boxing gloves.

This one does really hurt bc Apollo Creed was in our family room every week for a good 4 year period. RIP Carl.

Man...what a loss. Loved him. Was so happy he was appearing in Star Wars and rumors were they were far from done with his character.

R.I.P.

This one stings hard. He was a fixture in all the movies and shows I've loved. RIP
