Carlo Ancelotti reveals fresh Real Madrid injury concern after win over Villarreal
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that Raúl Asencio picked up a fitness problem during the club’s latest outing.
Real Madrid were of course back in action on Saturday night, making the trip to La Ceràmica for a La Liga meeting with Villarreal.
When all was said and done, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of the result, to keep the club’s title hopes alive and well.
This came after an early Juan Foyth strike was followed by a superb Kylian Mbappé brace, en route to a 2-1 result.
As alluded to above, though, Real Madrid’s eventual three-point haul came at a cost.
Just beyond the hour mark last night, Raúl Asencio was hooked from proceedings by boss Carlo Ancelotti, an altogether unpopular decision amongst the Blancos fanbase.
Speaking to the media post-match, however, Real Madrid’s headmaster revealed that as much actually came as a precaution, with his young defender having picked up ‘a calf strain’:
“It’s an absurd schedule. I had to substitute Raúl [Asencio] due to a calf strain, and rest Rüdiger because he hadn’t recovered. It was an exercise in survival.”
