I agree about the catch rule, or more directly it’s interpretation, but not about instant replay. Instant replay has been part of the game for many years, and hadn’t been an issue until recently. And it is not the technology that is a problem but specifically the NFL interpretation of the rules!

I watch a great deal of NCAA football, and MOST of the time, with the aid of replay, they get the calls correct. Yet in the NFL they repeatedly make calls that are difficult; if not outright impossible; to defend! The ‘no touchdown’, reversal call in today’s Bills/Patriots game could be exhibit A.

I am seriously close to giving up on the NFL!

replay removes an element to the game.
One of the best parts of being a football fan has been the debates over ******** calls and who would have won had the call not been made,...etc...
many times these debatable calls/non-calls have made NFL history... the "Tuck Rule" for example,..or one of my favorites... "The Immaculate Reception"... by rule TIR was not a catch,...the league changed the rules in the off season so it was...
Either way, the controversy and the emotional attachments that go with it have always been one of the better parts of being a sports fan... the NFL is creating a sterile product in pursuit of the almighty dollar. Like so many other industries they are willing to sacrifice a few "Die Hard" fans in order to bring in more "casual" fans, mass market means mass profits.

I can't believe you're serious. That's one of the worst parts of any sport. When replay shows that the wrong call was made and the wrong team won. How is that good when your team is the one that got screwed??? And even when your team is the one that unfairly benefits, their victory has been tainted and everyone knows it wasn't deserved.

There is NOTHING good about bad calls that replay shows to be obviously wrong!

I like replay. I don't like the catch rule. IMO if the ground can't cause a fumble it cause a no catch. I also hate the out of pocket throwing to on one at the line of scrimmage.

I've watched that replay about 10 times, what reason did they give for overturning that?

As the guy on FOX said in the early Rams game if that's not a catch I no longer know what the rules is.

I'd actually prefer they go into the replay process without considering the call on the field.

The ground can't cause a fumble if the player has possession and is touched down by defense. If a receiver never has possession , by rule, the contact by the ball with the ground creates no possession and ends the play. Very simple. Sort of a catch would be ridiculous.

No it's not. You can catch the ball get both feet down turn to reach out for the first or just more yards and have the ground knock it lose and it's not a catch. Running backs do it all the time. Use the Touch rule or call it fumble but not a no catch. I'm sick of seeing catches called not a catch after the WR's has possession two feet down.

teams get screwed even with replay.
did you see the superbowl between the hags and steelers??

Part of the problem is there are too many cameras on the field. if the plan is to remove human error from the game(and the refs are indeed human)... then we may as well stop playing with humans...run all the players at a combine, track their speed and agility...then simulate the damned game... or have the owners play against each other on madden

just like fans complaining when an umps strike zone is all over the place, bad calls are a part of the game.

Silly, straw man argument. Mistakes will happen, so let them happen and make no effort to correct them?

Sure, bad calls are part of the game. They are a BAD part of the game, and every effort should be made to reduce them as much as possible.

There should be more cameras and lasers and sensors everywhere.

straw man?? Keep the stupid wizard of oz references in P&R where they belong. its my opinion, not a debate tactic. Hated replay when they thought of it...hated it when they did the trial run,...still hate it today.
watering down the rules to try and extend player careers to 20+ years is a bad part of the game too.

Above is the definition of a straw man argument. Look it up.
