As beneficial as it is for a SS/2B combination to build chemistry in the field, it is not a crucial as a team's starting Catcher to do so with the pitching staff, especially the starting Pitchers.

Yesterday, Chase Anderson gave up 7 runs and 10 hits in 3.2 innings.

Is is a coincidence that he was pitching to the D-backs 5th starting Catcher this season, starting his 1st game? That has to be a factor.

Chip established his starting SS/2B combo of Ahmed/Owings and stuck with it despite a prolonged period of weak hitting from both of them. Ahmed came around some time ago. Owings is starting to come around.

Unfortunately, injuries at the Catcher position has caused chaos.

CATCHER...........GAMES STARTED
Gosewisch.................34............
Castillo.....................25............
Salty........................16............
Pacheko....................13............
Hernandez..................1............

Until the Catching rotation settles into place on a regular basis, it will be difficult for the D-backs to take the next step.

We need a more steady situation at the catcher position for sure... However, that has little to zero impact on Anderson's downward spiral.

Oscar Hernandez is a Rule 5 acquisition. Have to keep him on the active roster or back he goes to Tampa Bay. He's a defensive specialist (read can't hit) who was in A ball last year. Getting hurt was probably the best thing that could have happened to him this year as at least got some playing time during rehab. He's going to spend the balance of the season sitting at the end of the bench. Then next year the team can slot him into the minor league organization where he can develop.

BB kept going on and on about Hernandez and Anderson shaking him off on almost every pitch...said that Anderson should just be calling his own game...also mentioned that there were better ways to go through signs and that lack of chemistry between the two shouldn't be that much of a factor...however did say that all of the issues on calling the game was really slowing things down and not allowing Anderson to get into a rhythm.

Castillo pitched the whole game against the Giants on Friday evening. He has been performing well.
