During Sunday night's "Bracket Breakdown" on CBS Sports Network, college basketball analysts chose players to watch in the NCAA tournament East region, and Roy Hibbert identified Akron's Nate Johnson, a former Lakota East High School standout.
Last week, Johnson was named MAC Player of the Year. His game-winning shot Saturday against the Miami University RedHawks lifted the Zips to the conference's automatic bid.
Johnson and the 13th-seeded Zips face No. 4 Arizona in a first-round matchup Friday in Seattle, with a tip-off time of approximately 7:35 p.m. Eastern on TruTV.
"He can get it up. He has a heater. 31 points, 22 points the last couple games," Hibbert said of Johnson. "He's dynamic from the floor. He can play defense. So I feel like he has a chance to make a name for himself and maybe have like a (Oakland's Jack) Gohlke-type last year, to be able to go out and score. And maybe put some tears in some fans' hearts out there. He's an excellent player. He plays under control. Stop and pop. He can shoot from the 3-point line, and from the paint. So, a good midrange player, who also plays defense as well."
"He put some tears in my heart last night, man!" analyst Wally Szczerbiak joked. "That dude absolutely was on fire against my RedHawks."
