If you're hoping for a major bounceback for the Oklahoma football team in 2025, Las Vegas figures you should think twice.

Coming off their second sub-.500 record in three years and two of the three worst seasons since 1998 - the last time Oklahoma didn't make a bowl - the Sooners are expected to be in another fight for .500 in the fall, according to the over/under lines set by FanDuel. At least one national writer, though, thinks OU will overshoot their mark by a healthy margin.

Oklahoma's over/under win total is set for 6 1/2. But CBS Sports' Brandon Marcello thinks the Sooners will beat Illinois State, Temple, Auburn, Kent State, South Carolina, Ole Miss, Missouri and LSU. That would make OU 8-4 during the regular season. That isn't the stuff of Bob Stoops, or even Lincoln Riley, but it would be a positive sign for Brent Venables' future.

Venables pushed the right buttons in the offseason, but will it translate to more than six wins? Week 2 brings a home date with Michigan and an opportunity to get the program back on the map. Trips to Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina are troublesome. Still, it's not difficult to find seven wins on the schedule. These Sooners could surprise in the SEC this fall. - Marcello, CBS Sports

Whether you prefer that is another question altogether.

Vegas odds, though, have only four SEC teams with lower over/under lines. Not coincidentally, they're the four most common low finishers in the league in Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Arkansas. Unfortunately for the Sooners, OU doesn't play a single one of those teams. Still, Marcello is confident the line is set too low for Oklahoma.

Oklahoma opens its season August 30 against Illinois State.
