According to a "source close to Stoudemire":
Will Amare Stoudemire re-sign with the Suns this summer? That's the question I posed Thursday to a source close to Stoudemire.

Stoudemire, you may remember, had his bags packed for weeks, expecting to be traded by the Suns near the February trade deadline. When potential trades fell apart at the deadline, Amare was furious and vowed to bolt Phoenix this summer when he could become an unrestricted free agent, a source close to the process told ESPN.com

Later that evening Amare, his agent, Happy Walters, Suns owner Robert Sarver and GM Steve Kerr sat down to dinner to try to hash things out.

The Suns must have had said something right. Stoudemire and the team got on a roll, the team's chemistry never looked better, and now Phoenix is playing the Lakers in the Western Conference finals.

Given how successful the team has been lately, could Amare re-sign with the Suns?

“I don't think it's going to happen," a source close to Stoudemire told ESPN. "Amare feels like the organization disrespected him. Amare loves his teammates and has really enjoyed playing for the team these last few months, but he's reluctant to commit to Phoenix long-term."

The only thing I want to hear about Amare right now is that he's going to rebound and play defense in game 3.

I think reluctant is the keyword, which really didn't say anything conclusive. I guess it all depends on the offers he receives.

Sounds like what Joe Johnson said. Sigh. If he feels "disrespected", it would be great if he can take it out on the Lakers the rest of the series.

Amare Stou_amire w/o the d. Reluctant doesn't have a "d" so he'll leave.

I hope so.. he's talented but he is too pathetic on defense for the Suns to make a serious run at the title IMO. And now he can't even score that easily as he used to. He feels disrespected? I feel disrespected that I have to watch lazy basketball as a fan and just ridiculously unbelievably pathetic defense in the Western Conference Finals by a guy who wants max money.

Wait -- it's unlikely that he'll return next season, or it's unlikely that he'll return for the rest of the Lakers series? If he doesn't come back for Game 3, will we know the difference?

In the effort to delete all the "Steve" posts one of mine got removed. It was in response to your humorous post and it was witty beyond belief. If it ever shows up again I'll claim someone removed all the wit but the gist of it was this:

We will see the Amare of old again. He'll step on to that court determined to show everyone in Phoenix that he is truly a superstar. When the game is over, he'll fly back to Miami with the rest of his teammates.

Of course this comes up during the conference finals. I wonder if he has a bad game Sunday night the fans will boo him?

if amare walks it's time to blow it up.

keep:

dudley
lopez
dragic
clark (why not)

trade:

nash
hill
jrich
barbs

let walk:

frye
amundson
collins

try to load up on as many picks or young players as possible while creating maximum salary cap space (though for who . . . i have NO idea).

will be time to start at ground zero.

First off, this could be complete posturing by Amare's camp thinking that his play in this series has hurt his chances for a max deal. I really have a hard time believing that if the Suns said here is your Max....Amare wouldn't take it.

P.S. Ouchie, I like your suggestion but I don't trade Barbs. He has a fantastic contract and can still help out your bench.

Why wouldn't you keep Amundson too not sure he would demand a big contract. If you blow it up you can't get rid of all the names or you would lose a ton in ticket sales and trust me Sarver is not going to let that happen! Barbs, Amundson would stay and either JRich or Nash probably Nash would as well.

I agree, as long as they don't hold a fire sale. If you can't get value for Jason or even Steve in the off season than keep them in hopes of finding a more desperate mid-season suitor. We need to rebuild, in fact it's a better option than keeping Amare but we need to get some assets in return. I'd also let Grant dictate whether he remains or moves on, hopefully conversation will occur before his option.

Barring saving money, I highly doubt Suns FO has the guts or the willingness to blow up a team that got to WCF, if anything they will tweak it and i cant say i particularly blame 'em.
