Qualls has been lights out as a closer - 8 for 8. Last 14 appearances, no earned runs.

Did we have the closer answer all year, and BoBo screwed it up? Did he miss use Qualls, who started out great, but wore down?

I think the problem that Qualls had earlier in the year was that he was used way too much and he hit a wall. I would be willing to give him a chance at closer next year.

I think Bob Melvin told us that Qualls is the leading candidate right now.

I don't see why (he) shouldn't. We have some quality arms and we feel like any of these guys could close and we've had to rotate it around this year ...

But based on what he's accomplished, especially here as of late, I don't see why he wouldn't be considered the favorite going into spring training next year.

That is if "I don't see why he shouldn't", "... any one of these guys could close ..." and "I don't see why he wouldn't be" are meant to be positive statements.

Then there's the usual disclaimer, "... we've had to rotate it around this year."

Ah, the art of Melvin-speak. It's always so flacid with so many negatives.

I didn't make this up, folks.
