I read somewhere a couple of days ago that they were going to change the red alternate jersey just a bit for the 2008 season. The DB logo would have "fang-like" eyes now and the name on the back would be gold on black instead of black on gold and then the number would be black on gold instead of gold on black.

I think they wore them for the first time this year today but I didn't get to see the game and I can't find any photos yet. Does anyone know if this change is true and if it is why would they change them this soon eventhough it's just a minor tweak?

The numbers were predominantly black, with what looked to me as gold or white trim. The back lettering was either gold or white as well, definitely not the black lettering from last season.

Also, I don't know if anyone knew this or not, but they made a tweak to the script in the logo as well. I actually like this change. I don't know about the jerseys though but I haven't actually seen them yet. I mainly just want to know the reasoning behind the change because I thought they looked fine the way they were plus why are they making changes this soon... But here's the change they made:

The A and the K in the new logo look like fangs which is pretty neat and looks a little better than the other.

It was gold, they flipped the colors on the back. I was just wondering if whatever I read was true, and it is.

Last year the names were black with gold trim and the numbers were gold with black trim.

This year the names are gold with black trim and the numbers are black with gold trim.

After comparing two pictures of last year and this year, I think I like this year's better.

Gold? Do you mean SONORAN SAND? :p

I like the new unis, I like the slight change in the font on the logo, I just HATE that it says "D-Backs" on the white and reds, it looks horrid. I'd kill for all three jerseys with text to say Arizona, it looks so much better.

Also, I don't really like that the D has become the main logo (i.e. its on the primary hats). I prefer baseball hats to be done by the location name, not the team name. Either way, I was never a fan of the A logo (too busy), I wish we could've gotten something simple and classic like LA, NY, KC or Pittsburgh has. I also don't like that they're "Arizona" and not "Phoenix", it sounds small time, and sort of collegiate to me, but now I'm just rambling and being a complainer.

They wanted to make them the Arizona Diamondbacks to make them more of a regional/state-wide team rather than just Phoenix. I read something about that on wikipedia. I personally like the state names, California Angels was great and they had to go and change it a zillion times... If they were still the California Angels I'd like them a lot more.

Anyways what was the slight change on the front logo of the red jerseys?

I know WHY they call them Arizona, but I highly doubt that sort of thing works. Does someone in Tucson sit there thinking "heck, I'm not going to be a Suns fan, their only for the people from PHOENIX!"? I doubt it. Like I said, state names just seem collegiate to me.

EDIT: If I were in charge in 1996 (or whenever it was Arizona was granted a franchise) I would've tried to have buy up the rights to the name "Phoenix Firebirds" and carry that over to the MLB. There was already a local tradition and attachment to the name, and it was a really cool name. That team had good colors that were unique, as well as a cool logo (though they never had a nice simple "P" logo, but the MLB team could've come up with something). Its a lot easier name to chant and say than the overly long "Diamondbacks", but whatever, whats done is done.
