I thought that I've posted this before, but couldn't find the thread. After watching tape from last week's Cards and Rams games, I'm, once again, concerned about the play of our guards. We (pass blocking) were not good against the Cowboys, and that could be fatal against St. Louis. Assuming that they have their pass rush act together. CP could be in for a lot of pressure. Now, none of us know if Cooper will be an improvement, but it seems to me that he would. And I know:
1. BA doesn't want to change his OL.
2. An injury to CP could ruin the season.
3. Our game plan for the Rams will be run heavy.

What I don't know:
1. How do the rating services, rate our OL?
2. Am I just being an alarmist?

Hey! Garthshort...

Hope you're doing GREAT! It's a valid concern as many on here agree with you. The thing is I believe we have gotten to this point of success due to more than anything else...GREAT coaching. Our vets are secure in their roles and the young guys are soaking up their instruction like "red" sponges. My point simply...our coaches KNOW what we know and are ready to make whatever adjustments going forward. (ie; Cooper at guard, etc.)

GREAT example I heard the other day on AZCARDS re: Cro playing against the practice team. He's yelling at them...THEY (referring to the up-coming opponent) DON"T run it that way...the route is deeper. Run it again. This is just one example of how the players are taking ownership of the team.

So, I hear your concerns...BUT I think we'll be okay.

...And I think ALL Cardinal fans are "alarmists" to some extent. LOL

Have a GREAT day, bud!

MARK IN SC :)

BACK TO BASK-ING!! :D

I think we have earned the right to be alarmists after following this team for many, many years.

If nothing else the game versus the Rams could finally make Arians and Goodwin realize that either Larsen or Fanaika needs to be replaced.

Aaron Donald, Michael Brockers and Kendall Langford is one scary interior pass rush-group, and I have no envision that especially Larsen can hold up against that.

Don't forget that Suh and Ansah are waiting next week.. Luckily Fairley is most likely still out for 2-3 more weeks.

We are the sixth best in pass pro and San Fran was/is the third worst.

I trust that the coaching staff knows who's best to play halfway through the season better than us message board pundits.

If Cooper was that much better than what was out there HE would be out there I'm pretty sure.

I do not see our offense being run heavy against the Rams because their DL is so good but I do see a lot of delayed handoffs to keep their blitzing in place but with that line they can use a standard rush and still put the pressure on the offense. I see quick passes and John Brown having a big game if we win... I mean win lol

The Rams DL should be top 5 or better in the NFL but the results aren't there. 29th in the league in rush D, giving up 136 yds per game at a 4.6 per carry avg. They only have 14 sacks on the year and they got what, 8 against the 49ers?

Maybe the light has gone on for them but at this point their results are not worthy of causing fear.

You honestly believe BA knows more than we do?

I don't watch a lot of game tape but is Carson really being hit that much? Is it the pressure? I think my problem is I can still remember Kolb having pressure pretty much every pass play that this pass protection the cardinals currently has seems stellar. That and I like the yards the cards are getting on the ground. If I am wrong can someone please enlighten me?

Only 5 teams have been sacked fewer times than us. I hardly think we can call our pass blocking bad. Also, the Rams have only had a pass rush for 1 game all season. It's way too early to crown them a dominant pass rushing defense after 1 great game IMO.

The problem with our guards is run blocking. These guys are horrible at getting push and even worse when we ask them to pull. It's a shame too, because Ellington is so great in open space.
