The Chargers will kick off the 2025 NFL preseason against the Lions on Thursday, July 31 in Canton, Ohio at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Two days later, former Chargers tight end Antonio Gates will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

The game will be played at 5 pm PT and televised on NBC.

The Lions, who won the NFC North division and finished with a 15-2 record in 2024, will serve as the home team, while the Chargers will be the visitors.

“This game features two teams that can be considered legitimate contenders to reach Super Bowl LX next February,” said Jim Porter, president & CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “For them to face each other right out of the gate in Canton, Ohio, should create a dynamic opening to another spectacular NFL season.”

This matchup will mark the Chargers' third all-time appearance in the Hall of Fame game. For the Lions, it will be their fourth trip to Canton.

Legends from both franchises – Antonio Gates of the Chargers and Eric Allen, Jared Allen and Sterling Sharpe – will be enshrined two days later as members of the Class of 2025.
