Ayton made it to a second contract which was a MAX CONTRACT. He made it through his first five years. It doesn’t mean he didn’t completely underwhelm at the same time.

The Larry example is why I still hold out hope that Marv can be great and not just “good enough.” Can players get that edge if it’s not something that’s seemingly there from the get go? Yes. I just think it’s a rare thing to happen.

There's an NBA player, can't think of his name for the life of me, that was always accused of "dogging it" or lacking effort. When, in fact, he was playing hard just he made it look easy and effortless. Marvin definitely needs to improve in all aspects, and he will, but he's not dogging it.

To me, it's kind of funny that less talented guys are the ones that are said to be trying harder and look like they're putting forth more effort while more talented guys are actually putting forth just as much effort but just make it look easier.

I'll make a QB comparison. Dan Marino had such an easy effortless, quick release compared to, say, a Baker Mayfield who seems to be pitting every ounce of effort into every throw. They're both getting after it, just you can see it more on one guy.

I struggle because MHJ is on pace to outproduce Fitzgerald's rookie season stats in a pretty low volume passing offense and people are treating him like he is a bust. Are there things he will need to work on in the off-season? Absolutely. Has he made improvements already in this season? I would argue that his offensive PI is an example of being more aggressive and protecting his QB. I don't feel like I have seen a focus drop in a while.

I just struggle to see how MHJ is part of the problem like I feel people are saying.

Different era and different situation. Obviously it's a 16-game season, Fitz was competing for touches with Anquan and Bryant Johnson (all three had over 100 targets, which seems wild) and Freddie Jones, and the 2004 Cardinals threw the ball 533 times.

The 2024 Cards have 396 passing attempts over 13 games, on pace for 517 attempts over 17 games. Yikes. Trey McBride might have 130 targets -- he's 9th in the NFL, ONE TARGET BEHIND JUSTIN JEFFERSON DESPITE PLAYING IN ONE LESS GAME.

I change my mind: fire Petzing. What is the point of this offense?

Lots of unfounded speculation going on about Marvin's character and desire with zero basis.

I know a person on the Cards staff. There are zero problems with his work ethic and effort, or lack thereof.
But many of you are right. He's never going to make it. Cards should do like they did with Rosen. Draft his replacement and cut him in the off season.

Lol. The people that are individual player stans crack me up when they have to resort to complete hyperbole to defend their bestie. It just undercuts any strength of whatever straw you’re grasping at to defend the player at all costs.

No, you essentially compared Marino to charmin. No one ever questioned Mariano’s effort or the dawg in him.

I would hate for you to look at Larry's stats his rookie season and be even more disappointed.

Puka Nacua is playing with one of the best QB's in the league. That's really most of the difference.

Marv has made some elite catches and plays. Both TD's vs the Rams and the diving TD vs Miami spring to mind.

Marv is going to be great, the only question for me is will we have a QB that can make the most of him.

Totally different players. Marv will have a longer career because he's much more contact averse than Nacua is. Marv is very good but Nacua has much better hands and is much tougher. Marv has the natural size and allegedly speed.

To put it in perspective, MHJ has 45 catches in his first 13 NFL games. Nacua had 46 catches in his first FIVE NFL games.

marvin makes catches - incredible catches - no denying that but homie can't throw to himself - mcbride gets more targets as his routes develop faster and are closer to kyler murray who's likely jumping around in the pocket - pressure or no pressure - wanting to get rid of the ball instead of buying time with his feet while pump faking his ass off ala patrick maholmes and josh allen

Marv's elite catches in the Rams and Miami games were Christian Kirk level plays, and those plays happen with Marv with the same frequency that they did with Christian Kirk. Puka has games as good or better than Marv's Miami game almost every single game he's healthy. Right now Marv is a slower, taller Christian Kirk. I know Marv's private workouts say he had a faster 40 than Kirk, but he cannot separate on a go route like Kirk. Marv's good for a rookie, but people expected him to be Jamar Chase and he's not close.

There were 3 pass catchers taken after Marv that are head and shoulders better than Marv. Bowers, BTJ and Nabers are flat out better at everything, on worse offensive teams, with worse supporting casts, with worse QBs.

the floor for Marv is still reasonably high -- a "better than average" X WR

for me the super disappointing thing isnt so much the lack of contested catches, but rather the seeming disinterest he has in competing for contested catches

I believe he will be better, probably much better next year -- but ...............
