Chase for the NL West

I figured I'd start a thread where we can discuss the NL West chase. We are currently 3.5 games up but still have plenty of games to play.

The Dodgers are quietly starting to play better and the Padres seem to be stuck where their at. The Dodgers are 6-4 their last 10 and just signed David Wells, although that may help us because he sucks.

I think slightly better than .500 ball the rest of the way out gets us another NL West Crown. We have to keep our foot on the gas, I don't see the Dodgers or the Padres laying down. The Rockies and their potent offense can't be overlooked as well.

The key to a NL West crown and a run in the playoffs is Brandon Webb and Doug Davis continuing to pitch the way they have been. Livan needs to step up if we want to make a deep run and the bullpen must stay fresh/healthy

We need to find dependable 3-5 starters. The media and fans have been critical of Owings but IMO he is having a better season than Livan (all things considered). Livan needs to pick it up.

At this point, I'd like to see Enrique Gonzalez get a shot. If he bombs, send him back down and let Edgar, Yusmeiro, and Cruz battle for the 5th spot

He's seeing a back specialist but their saying he'll be back by Sept 1. I don't buy it, he's tweaked his back a couple times now and I think it's more serious then their saying

well, we have the third best record in baseball and the best record in the national league... Lets hope for a strong finish with several more games left against San Diego to close the season.
