This is a smart move on Chase. He goes to those tryout camps and sees what the GM's think of him. His stock has dropped in the past few months and I can't see him being a top-15 pick, especially with the number of underclassmen and foreigners in the draft.

I think he will find out what he needs to work on and come back and flourish like he did during his freshman year under Lute. Jennings will definitely make him better.

Is there a forward in the NBA that Chase can guard? He'll be NBADL-bound if he comes out now.

Chase is a worse pro-prospect than JJ Reddick.

Forget NBA, is there a forward in the Big Sky that Chase can guard?

I don't see how any GM with access to game film can justify drafting Chase top 15, but then again these are NBA GM's who get duped every year by some workouts against a couple test dummies.

I have always hated Budinger... but I have never seen so much blind hatred from a teams own fans for a player who averaged 17/5/3 for their team and was undeniably the teams 2nd best player... its really quite funny....

That said you all know damn well some GM is going to fall in love with his "potential" and "Athleticism" and will give him a promise....

I think he has no real potential in the NBA and should come back, but I would be surprised if he did.....

Right, because when you don't think a player is ready for the NBA that means you "hate" him.

This wasn't what Lute was expecting, I believe. I might be wrong. It does add to the off season intrigue down there.

The article I read on CBS today said he'll more than likely stay in the draft, rather than return, because he'll go in the first round. My guess is he'd be picked in the last 10 picks of the first round. I guess it all comes down to whether he wants to take a paycut.

;) Oops! I mixed him up with Kevin Love!

First off, he wasn't UA second best player last year nor does anyone hate him but 0/2 is about par for the course for you.

Probably not in the top 15, there's too many good players in this draft with just as much upside who show much better on tape. We'll see how what happens because I'm guessing he'll get a promise somewhere in the early 20's whereas if he stays on and Stern gets his two year rule he's probably top 10 in 2009. I'm also going to assume you think Jeff Pendergraph has no shot of going in the top thirty? Difference is, UA goes to the Tournament next year even without Budinger while you guys are NIT-bound without Pendy.

It would not suprise me to see the Suns take him at #15. It really wouldn't.

My question here is if Chase uses Suzuki to prepare him for workouts and help organize them can he come back to UA? I know the whole Randolph Morris nonsense changed the rules quite a bit so that the definition of what a kid can accept in the way of help completely changed.

Chase has a prior relationship with Suzuki and has presumably been paying him for years as a trainer but that does that make it "allowable" for Suzuki to be involved? I ask because I'd read that Suzuki was going to act as Chase's advisor.

I assume they were smart enough to check first and find out if that's within the rules.

JJ Reddick??

Teams can easily put Budinger at SG and while he's not a great defender, Chase will have more size and athleticism at that position... Budinger shoots .38 PCT at the 3PT line with two 3PTers made a Game and is a decent passer. Which is decent enough for a 1st Round mid-round spot, IMO.

I'm surprised that with so many Suns fans wanting Mike Miller (who is a horrible defender himself) in Trade packages, that a #15 mid-round Draft Pick at $6-7 Million cheaper contract a year, is shot down so quickly.

Anywho, my computer is acting up...

Chase could be a Nocioni-type of player if he added some bulk and intensity to his game. Unfortunately I think he's a typical SoCal kid who would rather be playing beach volleyball instead of hoops. The kid has a ton of potential but I just don't get the impression that he "wants it" that bad. Maybe I'm wrong, but its just kind of how I see it.

Chase has been a disappointment. He seems to lack fire on the court and his defense hasn't improved at all in two years. Again, does that mean he is "hated". He isn't.

I'd bet that 99% of UA fans want him to come back next season.

Dude, criticizing a player on your favorite team has no direct correlation to "hate" as you imply. I criticize Amare's and Nash's defense, that doesn't mean I hate either of them.

It's one of those 'I can talk about my family, but don't you dare do the same' type of thing.

ok I do stand corrected... "Hate" was clearly the wrong choice of words...

Criticized would have been better...

He is the Boris Diaw/Howard Eisley of the Wildcats... is that a fair assessment?

Jordan Hill, when he was on the court he had an impact on both ends.

riiiiight....

Ok ask 100 UofA fans who they thought was the 2nd best player, and how many will say Jordan Hill...

The dude averaged less points, 2 more rebounds, less steals, AND HAD A 1/3 A/T RATIO!!!

Seriously... Instead of announcing things in your head as if it is FACT.. how about prefacing things by saying "according to me... Jordan Hill was much better and our 2nd best player"... That would be more helpful.....

Anybody who factors defense and toughness into the equation and watches Arizona Hoops will say Jordan's a better player than Chase but obviously that doesn't include you. And I could give two craps what 100 random UA fans think, they're the same majority that still insanely supports another overhyped product in Mike Stoops.

Until Chase becomes tougher on the boards and doesn't become a matador on defense his statistical outputs in scoring and rebounding are pretty much meaningless as they're basically a wash. That's not the case with Jordan Hill who when on the court impacts the game in nearly every facet including stuff that doesn't show up on the stat sheet such as setting screens and being an intimidating presence in the lane. People complain about Jordan's foul problems, but when Chase misses a couple shots and starts his usual sulking he might as well be on the pine next to Jordan.

Chase is going pro. He was sitting in Bill Duffy's seats at the warriors game tonight.
