Chelsea consider ‘penalty fee’ to avoid Sancho signing

Chelsea are considering paying Manchester United a ‘penalty fee’ to avoid the permanent signing of Jadon Sancho.

Chelsea signed Sancho on loan from Manchester United last summer with an obligation to make the move permanent for a fee in the region of £25m.

The 24-year-old has faded since a strong start to the season after joining the Blues. He has failed to score in 14 league games and has provided just a solitary assist during that run.

Chelsea are now understood to be giving serious thought to paying a ‘significant penalty fee’ to avoid the permanent signing of the winger.

It continues an underwhelming time in the Premier League for Sancho, who struggled at Manchester United after his £72.9m arrival from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. He has scored just 11 goals in 81 top-flight appearances in England across both clubs and spent the second half of last season on loan at former club Dortmund.

As part of the loan agreement, Chelsea have a get-out option but will face a financial penalty to do so. iNews are reporting that this is now a possibility for the West Londoners who could look to overhaul their wide options in the summer. Fellow winger Mykhailo Mudryk is currently suspended after failing a drug test, pending an investigation.

Chelsea last week announced the signing of Geovanny Quenda from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of around £42m, though the 17-year-old will link up with the club in 2026. Fellow prospects Kendry Paez and Estêvão Willian will join up with Chelsea this summer upon turning 18.
