Not that one. The one in Chicago....

Bears select Kyle Orton opening day starter

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP)—Kyle Orton will start as the Chicago Bears opening day quarterback—beating Rex Grossman in a competition that lasted through training camp and two preseason games.
The Bears open the regular season on Sept. 7 against the Indianapolis Colts.
Orton started 15 games in 2005 and three last season. He’s thrown for more than 2,300 yards and 12 touchdowns in his career.
Grossman led the Bears to the Super Bowl after the 2006 season, but has been often criticized for committing turnovers. He has 30 career starts, with 31 TD passes and 33 interceptions.

Not cool. And I am not just talking about Orton or Grossman.

Yeah that.

I really wish the Bears had drafted another QB and started over instead of going with these two.

Sorry, I thought it was harmless and not too misleading. It certainly puts the Cardinals situation in perspective though. Chicago's got a real lose/lose situation if you ask me. I really don't understand how they got to the point that they're willing to sink or swim with Orton/Grossman. I mean, I would have kept Griese over either of those guys. Letting Berrian go, no running game to speak of...it sure looks like it's going to be a loooong year for the Bears. I wonder if the special teams will outscore the offense this year?

Man, I hear you. Griese was just never a fit. I stand by my statement that Love is in trouble if they don't win this year.

I have thought that Lovie is a very good DC at times and also thought that he mailed it in in 2003 when he was still with the Rams. As a head coach I think he got real lucky on that fluke Super Bowl team and he's consistently shown that he doesn't know how to put an offense together. With the special teams and defense that team has, it should always be in the playoffs. Now they're going to ruin Hester, waste another year with a lame duck QB and god only knows what they plan to do for their other WR's and running game.

Doesn't matter who wins because they are both losers. I am baffled how Chicago keeps thinking one of these guys can get them back to the Superbowl. Isn't the definition of insanity doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome?

Their offensive line and receivers are so bad it doesn't matter who their quarterback is.

Kyle Orton
18 G 233/448 52% 2,347 yds 12 TD(2.7%) 15 INT(3.3%) 62.2 rating

Matt Leinart
17 G 274/489 56% 3,194 yds 13 TD(2.7%) 16 INT (3.3%) 71.2 rating

I used to really like Orton when he was at Purdue so while I think he's been terrible as an NFL QB I actually hope that he somehow succeeds eventually. With all of the talk in regards to letting Leinart develop and he hasn't really played that much does that change one's perspective of Orton? Especially considering the utter lack of talent that he has compared to what Leinart has?

Leinart's ypa is much higher than Orton's (6.5 to 5.2) which accounts for the difference in passer rating but considering the targets each has, that might be less indicative of the QB's and more the receivers. I'm very surprised by the TD% and INT% being identical for each.

Orton took the Bears to the playoffs when Grossman went down. Is that that in your stats?

No, I don't think team wins are a QB stat and even if they were, it's pretty obvious that Orton didn't take the Bears anywhere in 2005. They had the #1 defense in the league and Orton just had to stay out of the way. 45/104 43.2% 480 1TD 2INT 52.5 rating the last 5 games of that year didn't "take" the Bears to the playoffs.

I would certainly take what the Cards have over what the Bears have but I also think that Orton and Grossman would fare far better if they were in Arizona than in Chicago. Putting a young, inexperienced QB in that situation is unfair if you ask me.

Sorry, I probably worded that poorly. I meant, when Grossman got his first taste and when Orton got his, they were both young & inexperienced and had little support around them on offense. When Leinart first started he had a lot more options. Didn't have the time to use them in a lot of cases but Boldin, Fitz and BJ blow away anything Chicago's had in the past 5 years.

Orton looked pretty good tonight vs. the 49ers. Hard to imagine that many new faces sustaining an effective offense but tonight they looked like a real team.

The QB controversy isn't over, they just don't have anyone good to compete with him, which is incredibly sad.

Next year they'll be in the same boat.

Is it me or did having Jim McMahon on that 85 SB team ruin them? Because the won win McMahon.

For some reason they think they can win the SB with ANY QB. Even then McMahon was decent enough sometimes, but they've wasted a good number of years with a stellar defense, thinking any ol Qb will do because 'defense wins championships'.
