EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Chihuahuas played its way to a 10-3 win over the Salt Lake Bees on Opening Day at Southwest University Park on Friday night.

A big reason the Chihuahuas got the win on Opening Day was because of the sixth inning the team put together. The Chihuahuas scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 9-3 after six innings of play.
As a team, the Chihuahuas recorded 13 hits in 35 at-bats, two walks, and struck out seven times.
Chihuahuas first baseman Trenton Brooks went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs and a walk in his first game with El Paso. He became the first Chihuahuas player to hit two home runs in a game since Tirso Ornelas on September 22, 2024 at Las Vegas. El Paso shortstop Mason McCoy went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and an RBI triple in the win.
El Paso’s starting pitcher on Opening Day, Ryan Bergert, gave up three hits, a run, a walk, and struck out four in four innings pitched. It was Bergert’s first start at the Triple-A level.
Raul Brito pitched 1.1 scoreless innings and picked up his first Triple-A win. Former El Paso pitcher Shaun Anderson took the loss for Salt Lake.
With the win on Friday night, the Chihuahuas have won five straight season-opening games.
Game two of the series between the Chihuahuas and Bees is on Saturday. First pitch is at 6:35 p.m.
