Liked Hale. He would have made a good manager. Kinda sucks to lose him actually because he managed most of the young guys at one time - seemed to get a lot out of them too. He'll land somewhere.
I've been very vocal in wishing that Chip Hale had replaced Bob Melvin.
Minor League manager of the year, and the Minor League championship, while the parent team was bringing up so many of his players -- the BabyBacks.
I, too, believe that Chip will be managing a Major League team before too long.
As I called out to him at a game (great seats -- 2nd row, right behind the 3B coaching box), "The D'backs have a great Manager. 'Too bad he's in the coaching box."
Chip Hale as Manager would have put life and confidence into the D'backs, just as he did in Tucson. Certainly a different disposition than the Melvin/Hinch coma.
I can't say I'm surprised that A.J. removed his competition.
