2021 - Prove It
Not what I would do, but what I believe the teams will do.
1 -Tampa Bay -Jamis Winston QB -Florida St
*If they could package this pick to get Rivers, they would be stupid not to do the deal. That being said, Winston is the guy they choose though I don't believe he is going to be a top QB.
2 -Tennessee -Marcus Mariota QB -Oregon
*I think this pick gets traded, but either way Mariota should go here.
3 -Jacksonville -Amari Cooper WR -Alabama
*They have a ton of solid players/money invested along their defensive line, and Williams isn't a premium interior rusher. They get Bortles more weapons to go with Lee, Robinson, and Thomas.
4 -Oakland -Leonard Williams DL -USC
*Raiders wanted Cooper, but Williams gets them a premium defensive piece to pair with Mack.
5 -Washington -Dante Fowler EDGE -Florida
*I could see them trading back because they have several holes on their roster. If they stay, Fowler fits their pass rush mold, is a premium position, and is arguably the best player available.
6 -New York J -Brandon Sherff OL -Iowa
*Could be the team who trades up with Tennessee because it is the closest move for Tennessee. If they stay or if Tennesse is here, Scherff makes a ton of sense.
7 -Chicago -Kevin White WR -West Virginia
*Chicago has made a ton of additions on the defense, but Fox knows how important weapons are for a QB. Will get an AJ Green type deep threat to complement Jeffrey.
8 -Atlanta -Alvin Dupree EDGE -Kentucky
*Atlanta needs an edge rusher, and Dupree fits that as a rush 4-3 DE.
9 -New York G -Andrus Peat OL -Stanford
*New York has weapons on defense, and defensive line is a little early here. Protecting Manning is job one, and Peat has the feet to do so. Giants have also been tolerant of tackles with sloppy bodies.
10 -St. Louis -La'el Collins OL -LSU
*St. Louis needs to be able to run the ball and protect Foles. A WR is a possibility, but this is real early for a CB. Better value to keep adding youth on the offensive line. Can make the impact Fisher needs to keep his job.
11 -Minnesota -Vic Beasley LB -Clemson
*Minnesota needs LBs, and Beasley fits the mold of a 4-3 OLB. Another player to get after Rodgers, Cutler, and Stafford. Spielman tends to look for value and Beasley is that here.
12 -Cleveland -Breshad Perriman WR -South Florida
*Browns generally draft to fill needs, and they need a replacement for Josh Gordon. Perriman brings similar skills. Browns doing Browns things.
13 -New Orleans -Danny Shelton DL -Washington
*Ryan has a history of success with big dudes at NT, and Shelton fits that role. His ability to stay on the field makes him a decent value here.
14 -Miami -Shane Ray EDGE -Missouri
*Miami has other needs, but Ray fills one, and is arguably the BPA. He has had issues, but this might be the perfect match between need and value.
15 -San Francisco -DeVante Parker WR -Louisville
*I can't see how the 49ers don't go WR if Parker is avaialble. A very good WR who is valued this high, and fills a need.
16 -Houston -Kevin Johnson CB -Wake Forest
*Houston doesn't have a ton of needs and CB isn't a big one, but he is arguably the best CB in the class, I don't believe Strong is rated as highly, or ILB for that matter. Johnson gives the defense another guy to try and slow down Luck.
17 -San Diego -Todd Gurley RB -Georgia
*If the Chargers don't trade Rivers, then they need to create an environment that he wants to stay in. Gurley rates higher than WRs here, and is the best offensive weapon available.
18 -Kansas City -Cameron Erving OL -Florida St.
*KC needs help on the offensive line, and Erving's versatility makes him worth the spot.
19 -Cleveland (frm Buff) DL -Malcom Brown -Texas
*Cleveland was terrible against the run, and needs a guy to anchor in the middle. This might be too smart of a move by the Cleveland front office, but I think they go DL or RB.
20 -Philadelphia -Arik Armstead DL -Oregon
*Kelly puts a premium on defensive players, and especially those with top athleticism. Armstead has that despite mediocre college production.
21 -Cincinnati -Eddie Goldman DL -Florida St
*Cincy doesn't have a bunch of needs, but cheap DL talent is always in demand. Goldman can sub w/ Peko early until he takes the job of freeing up Geno Atkins.
22 -Pittsburgh -Eric Rowe CB -Utah
*Ike Taylor was valued for years by the Steelers because of his smarts and size outside. Rowe brings similar qualities, fills a need, and doesn't come with the baggage of Peters.
23 -Detroit -Jordan Phillips DL -Oklahoma
*Detroit values size and athleticism at DT, and Phillips has this. Put him next to Ngata, and you have a solid interior pressence for life after Suh. Again, DL is great value at end of round 1.
24 -Arizona -Owamagbe Odighizuwa EDGE -UCLA
*He fits the scheme of the Cardinals perfectly, and brings more pass rush ability than anyone on the roster. A natural replacement for Shaughnessy.
25 -Carolina -TJ Clemmings OL -Pittsburgh
*Michael Oher is the LT for the Panthers. They need an upgrade, and Clemmings has the raw talent the Panthers have shown they are willing to develop.
26 -Baltimore -Jaelen Strong WR -Arizona St.
*A different player than Steve Smith orTorrey Smith, but Strong brings a similar style to Boldin when he was there. Ravens have other needs, but String is a nice fit here, and is ranked close.
27 -Dallas -Marcus Peters CB -Washington
*Attitude and playmaker, Dallas doesn't care about the baggage. Peters is the player they wanted in Claiborne, and will help them improve their defense.
28 -Denver -Benardrick McKinney LB -Miss. St.
*Wade Phillips likes big athletes inside in his 3-4, and McKinney fits. They have other guys on the roster, but McKinney brings a physical element that the Broncos have been looking for. A bit of a reach, but he has unique size in this LB class.
29 -Indianapolis -Randy Gregory EDGE -Nebraska
*BPA pick. At 29 Gregory is worth the risk, and they can develop him behind Mathis. The Colts have bigger needs, but Gregory is a player they can't pass on.
30 -Green Bay -Eric Kendricks LB -UCLA
*Kendricks allows the Packers to keep Matthews outside in base defenses, and move him around in sub packages. He is the smart, leader that they value and look for.
31 -New Orleans -Eli Harold EDGE -Virginia
*New Orleans likes athletes on the edge, and Harold is a very good athlete. He is raw, but Ryan has shown the ability to develop raw pas rushers in the past.
32 -New England -Byron Jones CB -Connecticut
*History says the Pats try and trade this pick, but Jones is a top notch athlete, fills a huge need, and si the smart/versatile type of player Belichick likes.
