I know it's not major news because he might not have been drafted anyways, but Chris Thomas is going back to school for his junior year. I was hoping he might go undrafted and we could bring him in to try out for our backup PG spot.http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/d03/story?id=1568750

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Chris Thomas withdrew from the NBA draft on Monday and will return to Notre Dame for his junior season.

Thomas, a 6-foot-1 point guard, said in May he would stay in the draft if he thought he would be among the first 20 players drafted. He later changed his mind and said he would stay in the draft only if he were a first-round pick.

Thomas was not immediately available for comment. A news conference with Thomas and Notre Dame coach Mike Brey was scheduled for later Monday.

Thomas had until Thursday to remove his name from the June 26 draft. He never hired an agent, which would have prevented him from changing his mind.

Thomas averaged 18.7 points last season as Notre Dame advanced to the NCAA Tournament's round of 16 for the first time since 1987.

He led the Big East in assists (6.9), ranked second in the conference in free-throw percentage (.871) and sixth in the league in steals (1.82).

? He would surely be drafted high in the second round.

I would have really wanted him if the Suns could acquire a late first rounder. I would definately rather have Chris Thomas than Luke Ridnour.

If he can wait until next year it did not make much sense for him to stay in the draft. He probably has a better idea of what he needs to work on to go higher in the draft next season. The point guard crop shouldn't be nearly as deep next year either.

I think he probably would have been drafted in the first part of the second round.

I think he would have been drafted at the end of the 2nd round or not at all. It's probably a good move for him to go back to school. Going back to school isn't always the smartest choice though, look at Chris Marcus.......he went from a probable 1st rd pick to a late 2nd rd pick and he had nothing but injuries and is overweight.

I'm a Domer and my opinion on Chris Thomas is that he's another DAmon Stoudemire. Good shooter but too small and can't jump at all.

And by the way, TJ Ford is a certifiable NBA bust. Too small.
