I've been down on him but he's a Cardinal now. I hope John Lott's Strength and Conditioning program solves his injury problems.

Good, borderline great pick. Great value for someone of his talent. I dislike Big 10 backs and my spider-sense goes off when I watch him, but he really was the best player available. There was no one on the board you could make a serious argument for us selecting.

I really think he is the best back in the draft and should have been a top 15 pick.. He is 6' 1" 235 lbs and ran a 4.39 at the OSU pro day.

Lets hope he's like AP who was also knocked for being injury prone but started 15 of 16 games last year and put on some awesome displays even while missing 7 starts the year before.

Most importantly we don't need to worry so much about going to NY or Philly or GB in January.

Here is some input on him

Chris Wells Height: 6-1 | Weight: 235 | 40-Time: 4.59

Strengths:
Outstanding size and bulk...Very athletic...Strong, powerful downhill runner...Breaks a lot of tackles and doesn't go down easily...Excellent stiff-arm...Explosive with a burst...Patient with very good vision and instincts...Has nifty feet...Moves well in the hole...Good balance and usually falls forward...Can stick his foot in the ground and change directions...Reaches top speed in a hurry...Plays faster than he times and was able to run away from people in college...Workhorse who gets stronger as the game goes on...Real competitive...Terrific production.

Weaknesses:
Often hampered by minor nagging injuries...Just average timed speed...Limited experience as a receiver...Doesn't have great hands or run good routes...Will struggle to get outside and turn the corner...Not overly elusive...Might be too tall and runs high at times...Adequate blocker but could show better effort...Toughness has been questioned

Parade All American in high school. Voted best high school RB in America. Lived up to his reputation early on. We want need to worry about getting two yards at the goal line. In college nearly all teams geared up to stop him and even so he made big yards at one of the best schools for RB's in the nation. Health is his only issue in my mind but no matter who you are you can go down in just one play for a long time. I think we will have $6 mil more in CAP money come Monday when we release EDGE. Either for our defense or Boldin. I tend to extend our Defense as Boldin wants out of Airizona. He has made that very clear and we have him for two more years at 5 mil no matter what. If he hold out then he holds out and we can fill his hole and he is the one that has a lot to lose.

I reeeeeaaaally hope I'm wrong, but this smells like a bust. It seems like the first thing he does when he gets the ball is look for how quickly he can get out of bounds without getting touched.

I'll take my crow medium rare and like it if I'm wrong.

Agree. The way some prognosticators knocked AP before the draft, I thought he might need a cane to get around, although most everyone on this board liked him as I recall.

You must have missed the clips of CW running over people and that totally rapid move where he hurdles a defender and keeps running straight downfield.

I was watching the clips looking for CW's ability to make the first guy miss. He looked very good doing that. In the Cards offense that is the most important thing a RB does. Edge was a master at it and that is why James was as successful as he was in the AZ.

I love this pick. As an Illinois fan I have been aware of Wells for the last three years. He made a name for himself as a freshman. Was scary as a sophomore. He had the injuries early this year but was solid after that. I remember turning on OSU games just to watch him run. He was good for a big run(25-55yds.) or two in every game. I am really happy to finally have a real RB who is young and extremely talented. We may be buying Wells jerseys early in the season.

i'd like to see one shred of evidence to back up that statement. Now, if you would have to look how quickly he can get into the end zone without getting touched then you may have something.

Wow, a guy misses 3 games in 3 seasons and he is IR bound? Talk about overblown.

I don't think he is Adrian peterson but Peterson missed 8 games in his 3 years and he seems to have held up well in the NFL, playing most of his games on turf/

I can see why someone might think this. When people are use to a back with no burst they don't get to the edge. Our backs would have gained 2 yards by turning it back. Wells gets 8-15 by turning the corner and goes out rather than take the hit. I like this style. We WILL be pleased.

Its ridiculous, one guy mentions he avoids contact and all of a sudden he is a pansy.

How does this stuff describe a guy who pubs describe as having the best stiff arm in college football or when breaking tackles is considered his best asset or a guy who "creates a lot of yardage after contact"....it makes no sense.

Great point. This is why I don't rely on pos./neg. analysis. Half of the time the negatives are the same things that they rave about in the positives. Just conjecture. I actually watched this guy. He is the real deal.

Wasn't Wells supposed to be the best RB in the draft? I was really surprised that he fell all the way to #31 and thought Cardinals fans would be pretty stoked about getting him. This whole draft was about getting the best available RB and all the talk leading up to the draft was about which RB the Cardinals would likely be settling for.

I don't think anyone thought Wells would be there that late did they? Thanks to teams like the Raiders creating an early rush on WR's, the Cardinals got a steal as far as I'm concerned.

This reminds me of Earl Campbell and Franco Harris. People used to say that Campbell was crazy for running over people instead of running out of bounds occasionally because it was going to shorten his career . Then the same people would knock Franco Harris for running out of bounds to avoid contact.

As an aside we all know what happened to Campbell. So imo its a good thing that a RB will run out of bounds sometimes.

I don't know how or why he ended up falling to 31, but in a draft where a guy like Crabtree falls to 10, nothing has surprised me. I think this guy has the potential to be much better than any of us expect. For those of you worried about injuries, if our staff can keep old man Warner from getting hurt and missing games, this guy will have no problems.

I think Whiz just got his new Jerome Bettis.

I'm willing to look past the fact that he is a Buckeye.
