His batting average and OBP is way too low to bat second in the lineup consistently. 0-15 in the biggest series so far this season...

Here is what our lineup should be right now...

SS-Drew
2nd-Hudson
LF-Jackson
3rd-Reynolds
1st-Tracy/Clark
C-Snyder
RF-Romero
CF-Young
Pitcher spot

that way sometimes young acts as a lead off hitter. he doesn't have power anymore. He gets thrown out a few times stealing third with 2 outs..WHY? And he doesn't make consistent contact. If not for his above average defense, I would be suggesting AAA.

Can't wait to get Upton back so we have a Upton, Romero, Young platoon of RF and CF. Then Chris Burke, who is the worst player in the majors can be demoted off the team entirely.

Orlando Hudson has batted 2nd for a couple of games. Let's see how long Melvin gives it a chance to gel before giving up on it. Flake!

Chris Young? He has a tremendous amount of potential . . . and a total lack of confidence.

Why has Young failed at bat so consistently this season? Well, he batted leadoff, despite having high strikeouts and HR power.. Why? Probably because of his speed . . . under a Manager who doesn't employ stolen bases or much hit-and-run.

Then he was moved down to 7th in the batting order. Then back up to 2nd. Then 8th. Then 3rd. Then 6th. Then 7th again.

How in the world can a young man have a clue if his Manager doesn't?

Chris Young will do well . . . when he's traded. Just as Quentin.

Is it possible

That Young needs his eyes checked? No kidding. He swung at 2 pitches literally in the left handers batters box. I really believe he is having trouble picking up the rotation of a curve ball. He may need glasses or contacts. Otherwise he's just dumber than a rock and guesses incorrectly regarding what he is going to be thrown.

He seems like a young player that doesnt know his role. That makes perfect sense since MELVIN HASN'T GIVEN HIM A DEFINED ROLE!!!! I've noticed he hit's MUCH better in the 2 spot than anywhere else in the line-up because he's not swinging for the fences. Other #'s that are very interesting is how drastically his BA improves after hitting in the same spot a few games in a row.

How can Melvin expect a young player to hit like a leadoff guy one day and like a cleanup guy the next. Notice what happened with Jackson after he was given a defined role between the 2 and 3 spots in the lineup.

Maybe if he were stuck in a normal spot in the lineup and LEFT there, he'd not "suck" as much?

Also, he's going to hit 30 this year, on top of the near 30 he hit last year. His average needs improvement, but he hardly "sucks".

There is no way he's gonna get 30 this year. I'd bet some vbookie money on that one.

Young hasn't been a great hitter. I kinda think he is a power hitter in a non power hitters body, but he is not even doing that. I don't know what to think. We gave him a nice contract, and he's played like crap. What will we do? Our offense as a whole has been subpar this season. I say bat him 6 or 7. We need to see how Upton plays when he gets back.

I wouldn't give up on Young, simply because he has a ton of potential and like Hoover said in another thread, this may just be a sophomore slump.

That said, if the team had another CF prospect or a logjam at OF next year (which they will), then Young needs to be on a somewhat short leash.

He was on my fantasy baseball team. Maybe he will do well now that I dropped him.

The thing is, that Young batted .237 last year. Thats pretty bad as far as I'm concerned. He's striking out a ton. His batting average is around .230 this year. He's not the best offensive guy and I think the 32 homeruns did help him seem much better offensively than he is. Trust me, I'm all for him doing well. But, I just think we overrate this guy. At least right now.

By the way, he is second in the team for most strikeouts with 117. Thats tied for 3rd most in the entire national league.

I hope you're right. Who cares if he hits 30 HR's. Having to play that role -- and as a leadoff hitter for a good part of the first half of the season as well -- had left him ineffective.

Chris Young himself said a day ago that he's going to stop swinging at pitches farther and farther outside the strike zone. It certainly showed in the results vs. the Pirates last night.

4-AB, 2-RUNS, 3-HITS, 1-TRIPLE, 0HR, 1-WALK, 0-STRIKEOUTS.

The question is . . . WHERE THE HELL HAVE HIS MANAGER AND BATTING COACH BEEN FOR THE PAST TWO MONTHS?

A great Manager adjusts to situations during a game.
A good Manager adjusts to situations by the next game.
A fair Manager adjusts to situations in a few games.

A Manager who is detrimental to his team doesn't adjust to situations for two months.

That's how long it's taken for Young to realize what even Gracie said on the air last night, "Swing at Strikes; take the Balls." His Manager and Hitting Coach should have addresses that seven weeks ago.

So last night, Chris Young stopped his 'ofer' despite his Manager and Batting Coach.

Hopefully he's smart enough to not be another Carlos Quentin.

i wouldnt blame Melvin for someone on pace to strikeout over 180 times. thats just inability. at least Reynolds comes up big every few games...

Have people forgotten that we said the same things about the 24 YO S.Drew last season when he batted .238 and now that the 24 YO Young is batting .238...we do the same thing. By the way Drew is hitting .280 this year...YOUNG IS YOUNG GIVE HIM A BREAK

P.S. I won't even mention what we said about the 24 YO C.Quentin last year.

This feels familiar about CY acting like a hole in our lineup because managers insist on hitting him in hitter's spots of the lineup.

I like CY as a baseball player, but for god's sake bat him 6, 7, or 8

Sorry. I meant the sig. I thought it was in reference to the thread, some hidden message or reference I wasn't getting in relation to CY.

I realize now it's just his sig so I deleted the post. Some sniffing tells me it's Troy Sanders of Mastodon.....whoever that is.
Oops sorry. Carry on.
