Being in the "industry" and a cinephile, Christmas is always a time for my family to watch Christmas movies. This year, we put together a pretty big list to watch, but we're starting so late, I'm worried we won't see everything.

Yesterday we started the marathon and watched the original "Grinch Who Stole Christmas" from tv and Miracle on 34th Street, which I hadn't seen in a long time, and it is still a pretty great Christmas movie.

The rest of our list:
Rudolph (from TV)
Frosty (from TV)
Santa Claus the Movie
Home Alone
Scrooged
Christmas Vacation
It's a Wonderful Life
A Christmas Story
Polar Express
A Christmas Carol (the Jim Carrey animated one)
The Ref
Love, Actually

I myself have seen all those movies, but my 10 year old hasn't. Some movies (like Die Hard) aren't on the list because she's 10 and some (like the Charlie Brown Christmas) aren't on it because I don't have accessibility to it. I own all on the above list on Blu or DVD.

What traditions/plans do you guys make at Christmas, if any? Which movies are must-watches every year?

I always watch the X-Files episode "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas" on Christmas Eve. It's been a tradition for me for over a decade.

I will watch Home Alone during the holidays but not as a tradition.

Home Alone forsure. Everything about that movie makes me think of Christmas when I was a kid. Not because I was left home alone, lol just the time of year it came out.

At Christmastime I really like Love, Actually as well. (cant remember if there was a comma, it looks wrong, but I'm going with it!)

My favorite Christmas movie is the Alastair Sim 1951 Christmas Carol. Sim himself was a genius in it, and apparently got the role when Olivier turned it down and instead recommended him. Marley was magnificent as the ghost, and it has the best Tiny Tim, IMO.

...and Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Lethal Weapon, and Gremlins.

For when the kids are a bit older, but they should definitely be on the list. ;)

Gemlins def needs a remake. The animation is downright comical and not in a good way.

Love actually seems a little rough for a 10 year old. The parts where they are acting out porn scenes was embarrassing for my 14 year old daughter.

I've never seen it, but it is rated R.

Heck, if the 10-year-old can watch that, she can watch Die Hard.

I'm leaving it up to the wife if the 10 year old will watch it. My guess is that she won't, we'll watch it when she isn't around sometime next week.

Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are stretches as Christmas movies IMO. But they weren't put on the list because of the 10 year old.

We started a new tradition this year. A little bit of work but it's fun. We wrap all of our Christmas movies put them in a pile and the family picks one each night and we watch it.

It's been really fun.

That's actually a cool idea. A lot of work, but cool. I might have to do that when my son gets older.

You know what "Christmas" movie I thought of today? I only call it a Christmas movie because that's totally how it was marketed, but have you guys seen Toys with Robin Williams?

Funny story about that movie: I was 12 and my sister was 14 when that movie came out and we both wanted to see it. The way it was marketed, my parents weren't interested I remember clearly them saying they couldn't handle another 'cutsy Christmas movie' because we had been making them watch them all month. LoL

So they dropped us off and we saw it. I remember like it was yesterday us two kids walking out of the theater and like, not talking at all. Then I was like,,, ummm did you like that? And my sister was like; Ummmm I'm not sure exactly what that just was, but I dont think it was a Christmas movie. lol I was like yeah, I feel like I wanna go home and watch something happy.

The scene when they were murdering all the toys she was crying, but I totally wasn't crying. I WASNT!!!

Such a weird freakin movie. haha

I think we have watched "Elf" ten times already this holiday season. It's a family favorite in my household.
