I've got Heroes on pause so I can post here while I build up enough space I can blow through commercials on Heroes and Journeyman.
This show's in a good time slot. It appeals to the right demographic. I predict it will stick for at least 3 seasons, and in 10 years 20somethings pushing 30 will get on ASFN's television board and wax sentimental about how much fun this show was. The rest of us will probably watch a few episodes but may forget to watch it a few times and ultimately lose track of it without any anxiety.
It's not one of the shows you rave about the writing and acting, but I will say I know enough about TV production to know this kind of show is harder to pull off than it looks. You have to write dumb to keep the pre-teens engaged without letting on that you're pandering to them. It's well casted, even if Joshua Gomez is doing an annoying Seth Green imitation that is probably drawing raves from producers who think reproduction of anything previously successful = talent. It might just draw a few kudos from family entertainment watchdogs; even though there's "adult situations" content, they never really go there and Chuck says "gosh" a lot.
Favorite character? Captain Awesome. Wish I had thought of that one. That's actually a good premise for a spin off. Give me more Captain Awesome.
For some reason my intelligence wasn't offended upon learning a Stanford CIS grad was making $11 an hour running the show for faux Best Buy. That's just the kind of show it is. You think too much and you end up doing laundry or something other than vegetating in front of the TV while waiting for the premiere of a show you're pretty sure is going to end up disappointing you.
