Before the Philadelphia 76ers hit the road for a 6-game trip back on March 16, they signed former first-round pick Chuma Okeke to a 10-day deal. The Sixers needed some bodies when considering all of the injuries they are dealing with so Okeke made a lot of sense.
In the six games on the trip, Okeke averaged 8.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists while shooting 54.5% from the floor and 45.5% from deep. It was a nice run for the veteran out of Auburn to work his way back into the league.
However, his 10-day deal expired after the trip. Due to the fact that it was his second 10-day with Philadelphia--he was on a 10-day with the team back in February when he played a game on Feb. 7--he cannot sign a third such deal. He is now back in the G League with the Westchester Knicks.
If the Sixers wanted to keep Okeke, they would have had to bring him back on a standard deal. With 10 games remaining, they are just trying to get to the finish line in what has been a tough 2024-25 season. Okeke will look to continue his way back to the NBA back in the G League.
