GOODYEAR, Arizona – The Cincinnati Reds (11-16-1) split a pair of split-squad games Friday, beating the Seattle Mariners 5-3 in Peoria, Arizona, and losing 8-5 to the Chicago White Sox after a six-run ninth by the Sox at Goodyear Ballpark.

Brady Singer tunes up vs. White Sox

Reds starter Brady Singer threw 93 pitches and got two outs deep into the sixth inning in his final start of the spring before he’s scheduled for a Reds debut on March 31 against the Texas Rangers at Great American Ball Park.

Singer pitched around traffic in the second after loading the bases with nobody out, getting a fielder’s choice grounder for an out at the plate and after a run-scoring single, inducing an inning-ending double play. He also started a nifty double play to end the fifth when Brooke Baldwin drove a one-hop shot back to the mound.

A leadoff single in the sixth led to the other run he allowed, eventually scoring on a two-out double by Tristan Gray, Singer’s final batter.

Hunter Greene lean machine vs. M’s

Against the Mariners, Opening Day starter Hunter Greene stretched his pitch count to 84 over five innings of work in his final start before Thursday’s opener.

He struck out seven, walked two and gave up single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

Austin Hays cleans up vs. Sox

Reds left fielder Austin Hays, the Reds’ cleanup hitter to open the season, walked and scored in the Reds’ three-run first inning against the White Sox, singled in the second and then delivered his third home run of the spring over the left-field wall in the fifth.

Casual-homer Friday in Peoria

Gavin Lux, Austin Wynns and minor-leaguer Ruben Ibarra all homered in the Seattle win, with Ibarra’s two-run shot in the seventh snapping a 3-3 deadlock.

Jacob Hurtubise, who scored ahead of Ibarra on the game-winner after getting hit by a pitch, also doubled home a run for the Reds.

Up next for Cincinnati Reds

The Reds travel to Peoria, Arizona, on Saturday to face the San Diego Padres in a 4:10 p.m. (ET) Cactus League game (MLB Network TV, WLW-700 radio).
