The Conference Semifinals of the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs kicked off with three games on Friday night. Here’s a look at what happened in each.
Stars Edge Musketeers
Daneil Shlaine and Aiden Janz tallied a tying and game-winning goal, respectively, to help Lincoln to a 3-2 win over Sioux City. The Stars take a 1-0 advantage in their best-of-five Western Conference Division Semifinal Series.
Bruno Idzan put Lincoln ahead 1-0 at 7:28 of the first period on a wrist shot from the low slot.
Sioux City had several high-quality chances throughout the opening period, but Stars netminder Yan Shostak was up to the task, stopping each one.
The Musketeers finally broke through Shostak’s seemingly impenetrable wall late in the middle frame. After Lincoln picked up two penalties, Sioux City made them pay by capitalizing on both chances.
Giacomo Martino tied the score blocker-side from the right circle, then Nicholas Sykora added another power-play tally two minutes later for a 2-1 Musketeers lead after 40 minutes.
Shlaine tied the game six seconds into a power play with over five minutes gone in the third. A short while later, Janz went bar-down to put the Stars ahead for good 3-2.
Shostak had 18 saves to earn the win, while Sioux City goalie Samuel Urban stopped 19 in the loss.
The two teams meet again Saturday night at the Ice Box, with puck drop scheduled for 6:05 Pm.

McMorrow Stays Hot
Brendan McMorrow continues to shine in the playoffs for the Waterloo Black Hawks. McMorrow, who came into the series with four points this post-season, netted a pair of goals and added an assist in a three-goal third period.
That was the difference in the Hawks’ 4-2 victory over Sioux Falls for a 1-0 lead in their Western Conference Semifinal showdown.
After the Herd grabbed a 2-1 lead heading into the final frame, Waterloo woke up. Just 39 seconds in, McMorrow capitalized by putting a shot under the crossbar.
Grady Deering, who got the assist on McMorrow’s tally, lit the lamp a short time later to give Waterloo a 3-2 lead. After banking a dump-in off the right boards, Deering got the loose puck in the right circle, then slipped in a low shot under Sioux Falls netminder Waylon Esche.
McMorrow assisted on that goal, then added some insurance on Waterloo’s only power-play goal of the evening at 11:06. After Esche stopped Dylan Compton’s initial shot from the right point, McMorrow put in the follow-up attempt.
Game 2 is Saturday night in Sioux Falls, with puck drop set for 6:05 Pm CT.
Fighting Saints Blanked By Capitols
The first 40 minutes of the Eastern Conference Semifinals’ opening game between Madison and Dubuque were scoreless. Who would blink first?

It was Madison who finally broke through with all three of their goals in the third period for a 3-0 shutout of the Saints.
The Caps’ top line put across the first tally, when Finn Brink put one in off a transition up ice at 1:48. After the Saints pulled goaltender Liam Beerman with 90 seconds left in regulation, Mason Moe and Sam Kappell each scored empty-net goals for the 3-0 victory.
Madison netminder Caleb Heil was perfect on the night, saving 23 shots. Beerman stopped 26 of 27 shots to suffer the loss.
The Saints were shut out just once in the regular season and came back with a 6-0 shutout of their own the following night in Des Moines against the Buccaneers last October. They are hoping for a similar result in Game 2 of this best-of-five series, which resumes in Dubuque Saturday. Puck drop is set for 7:05 Pm CT.
