CJ Nickson curled off a screen set by Ethan Sage, then rose smoothly for a jumper.

For a split second, the entire arena seemed to hold its breath. The shot landed perfectly in Nickson’s sweet spot above the free-throw line.

The ball swished through the net, and the crowd erupted into pure chaos as Weatherford beat Crossings Christian 46-44 for the Class 4A boys basketball state title Saturday at State Fair Arena.

Weatherford is the Class 4A state champion for the first time in program history.

Nickson led the Eagles with a game-high 19 points in the win while Tate Sage added 15 with three steals.

Cal Furnish ended with 17 for Crossings Christian.
