UNCASVILLE – The second-seeded Bacon Academy girls basketball team won its first state championship since 2012 with a 39-25 victory over ECC opponent Windham Saturday morning at Mohegan Sun Arena.
It was top-seeded Windham’s second trip to the finals and the Whippets’ second straight loss.
Skyelyn Schoen-Rene had 21 points for Bacon Academy, which lost to Windham (25-2) during the regular season, 42-38.
Windham was led by Jaelize Rivera, with 13 points. The Whippets shot 10 for 50 from the field and 2 for 19 from the 3-point line.
Bacon Academy (25-2) had been to the finals in 2013, 2017 and 2022 and lost.
