From the Lost thread - thought this deserved a CQ thread by itself

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

More viewers than ever found "Lost" Wednesday as the ABC thriller soared to its best ratings yet -- crushing NBC's much-hyped Clay Aiken special in the process.

NBC's decision to air its "Clay Aiken Christmas Special" opposite the last original episode of "Lost" -- rather than wait a week, when the ABC smash will be in repeats -- proved to be a disaster. Oddly-produced hour -- which abandoned traditional Christmas special schmaltz in favor of a jarring "special within a special" format -- earned a measly 2/5 in adults 18-49. That's even worse than previous timeslot duds "Hawaii" (2.5/7) and "LAX" (2.1/6), or Fox's own low-rated Aiken-less "American Idol" holiday hour.

I believe you DJ.

I'm sure it was just some innocent channel experimenting.

Hey CQ, apparently Djaughe likes Clay Aiken, too.

Maybe when Clay comes back, you guys can go to the concert together?

Well, I have a confession to make. I didn't watch the Clay special last night! My friend Tivo'd it for me. Here's the reason why:

I used to work at Chick-Fil-A when I was a teenager. The owner/manager of the Metro store is a wonderful couple! I've stayed in touch with them over the years. They just got a new freestanding store by Arrowhead that opened TODAY! There was a by invite only premiere last night. So my hubby and I went to that and ate free Chick-Fil-A :YUMMY: visited with old friends, and got to see the new store. It officially opened at 6 this morning! YAY!!!!

So, I'll watch the Clay special once my friend puts it on a tape for me!

I think you are going to have to send your Clay Fan Club Card (The Claymates) back.

Hopefully this will prove that Clay Atkins Christmas Special do not belong on Network T.V.Lifetime would have been a much better choice.

I think their timing of it wasn't wise. It should have been on an hour later, maybe two. I think having it on network tv was ok, just the timing was stupid.

Who knows! A lot of people also thought that he'd have vanished into thin air by now, but he's still selling albums like crazy, put out a great Christmas album, he's on his either second or third nearly sell-out concert tour...

No matter what...

The Clay Aiken Christmas Special can not be any worse than the Star Wars Christmas Special.

:jedi:

"What's wrong Lumpy?"

"Raaaaarwraaarwaaar...."

"Chewbacca won't be home for Christmas?"

"Wraaaraaaawrrwaaar..."

"Don't worry Lumpy, your father will make it. You just have to believe in the Christmas Spirit!"

Here is a great review of the Star Wars Christmas Special

"The Star Wars Holiday Special" is like a massive train wreck -- you see it coming, it makes a whole lotta noise and it's really, really long.

There's no plot per se, but the show drifts along something like this: It's Life Day on the Wookie planet of Kashyyyk. (Life Day is sort of like Thanksgiving and Chanukah put together, except it's much, much more boring.) Chewbacca's return from his galactic adventures is eagerly awaited by his family -- wife Malla, father Itchy and son Lumpy.

Once again, that's "Itchy" and "Lumpy."

Anyhow, Malla (who I think is supposed to be pretty, but looks a little like Leatherface from "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre"), Itchy and Lil' Lumpy have several in-depth conversations regarding different Wookie-related matters. Of course, since they're speaking Wookie-ese, we can't understand a word.

This nonsensical squawking and squealing goes on for 20 minutes. Thankfully, Art Carney finally shows up and bestows upon the family a "mind evaporator."

Which, come to think of it, actually explains most of the program so far

I would watch the Star Wars special every day instead of the Clay Atkins Christmas Special.

But I never watch specials like that.

to each his or her own.

LOL have you ever seen it? I used to own a copy of it on VHS for pure laugh factor. When they say 20 minutes of wookie talk...they aren't lying. There are no subtitles...just random chirps, yells, and roars.

On the bright side it makes a great drinking game tape.

I think I watched it when I was a kid. I wouldn't watch that either, I guess. :D
