The Los Angeles Clippers today signed free agent forward Ruben Patterson. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not released.

A nine-year NBA veteran, Patterson is coming off a successful 2006-07 season in Milwaukee, where he established new career-highs by averaging 14.7 points, 2.9 assists and 31.4 minutes per game. Patterson appeared in 81 games for the Bucks, equaling a career-high while also tying his career-high with 5.4 rebounds per game. Patterson shot 55 percent from the field last season, his highest field goal percentage as a pro.

“We are thrilled to add Ruben to our team,” Clippers Vice President of Basketball Operations Elgin Baylor said. “Ruben plays hard every single night. He is an aggressive defensive player and has a real enthusiasm for the game. He gives 100 percent every game.”

The Clippers will be Patterson’s fifth NBA team, as he spent the 2006-07 season with the Bucks after appearing in 70 games and splitting time with the Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets in 2005-06. Patterson faced the Clippers in the 2006 NBA Playoffs, appearing in four games and starting one as the Clippers defeated the Nuggets.

“I am really excited by our signing of Ruben Patterson,” Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy said. “He is a great competitor. I have always admired the intensity he brings from game to game. His versatility will help improve our team.”
...

I thought he looked great on the bucks, why didnt they re-sign him?

"to make room for yi" is not a valid answer :p

To quote Bill Simmons, I don't even have a joke here.

It sure looks like they're done with Maggette, though.

Anything wrong with Maggette? He used to be a player that many on this board coveted. I guess I am just unaware of his situation. If the Suns want to play more small ball he would seem a nice fit.

I don't see how a trade works that makes any sense.

Unless we go the Marion route.

Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks for Maggette, Cassell and Tim Thomas works under the cap.

We could start Nash, Bell, Maggette, Thomas, Stoudemire and have Diaw, Barbosa, Cassell off the bench with spot minutes for Tucker/Strawberry/Marks if necessary.

Not sure what team is better. It kind of depends on Marion's plantar fasciitis.

Financially, this team is in much more reasonable shape to make basketball moves as well.

I don't see the Clippers wanting to move Maggette except for a prospect or pick. He has a player option next summer which he's fairly likely to decline (i.e. opt out), so he's basically an expiring contract. With Brand and Livingston both gone for the year, all the Clippers can really hope to do this season is tread water and plan to reload. Taking on Marion wouldn't help them at all.

I agree, but Elgin Baylor could panic and decide he needs an all-star starting "power forward" this year.

I like your trade proposal as it addesses the loss of Marion and strengthens
two other positions. It also corrects the mistake of the Suns signing Banks instead of TT.
