Clippers @ Suns Sunday game thread 1-3-2021

The Suns come home for two games playing the Clippers on Sunday and the Raptors on Wednesday. After that they hit the road again for three games.

Clippers are 4-2 on the season with their last game being a 106-100 loss at Utah on Friday.

Suns have moved to 5-1 on the season by beating the Nuggets on Friday 106-103 in Denver.

Start time is listed at 6 p.m. Arizona time.

It will be televised on FSAZ.

According to ESPN Match Predictor they have the Clippers favored 53.9% to 46.1%.

This is “a game we can lose” and it’s okay. Nobody should be devastated if we get beat: even badly. Just about everyone has lost by 20+ this year. It happens over the course of the year and this could be the game, playing an elite opponent after a difficult road trip.

That being said, I think we match up pretty well with the Clippers. We can put Bridges and Jae on Kawhi/George, hide Paul on PBev and Booker on Batum. Ibaka isn’t going to overpower Ayton inside. Also, their bench is pretty weak. Kennard isn’t good. No Morris. Zubac and LouWill are decent. Reggie blows.

Feels like CamJohnson will go off today. Starters for both teams will struggle to score; our bench will outplay theirs. I’m expecting a close one in the 90s.

So far, in about the same amount of minutes Cam Johnson is more productive in regard to shooting and scoring this season than last season.

It's important for Ayton to stay out of foul trouble to anchor the defense. It's something that applies to almost every game.

I'm glad Saric is there to steady the second unit.

We will need more production from Carter and Payne than the last game.

We appear to be a much better team now than we've been in many years but the Clippers have had our number for quite awhile. We've won 6 of our last 32 meetings so putting your emotional well-being on the outcome of a game against LAC might not be the best idea. I'm hoping for the best but I'll have a couple of glasses of wine along the way, just in case.
