I am speculating that the raiders are not going to be in the hunt for the same coaches everyone else is talking to (fassel, green, romeo, etc)... They still have not announced callahans firing... Al Davis does probably not want to get into a bidding war with the top candidates..and with his reputation not sure any of the top guys would want to coach there anyway... I would not be surprised if they hire someone like Art Shell (someone who it appears no one else is interviewing).. Perhaps wishful thinking - but I hope they stay out of the coach hunting circus for a while longer...

Per the press release below....still no announcement...

I don't exactly remember on what terms Shell left under when Davis replaced him with Mike Shanahan.

Somehow, I don't think Shell would be too inclined to go back there under Davis.

Tango: I think he might....I lived in LA and was a raider season ticket holder when Art was the coach....I thought he was awful...his overall record was not that horrible ..and in way hindsight maybe he was not that bad..

Not sure of exact terms he left under -but Art is kind of a loyal Raider lifer...so I am sure he would do it if asked...He is probably not the guy - put I am guessing they will get someone unexpected who is not on current circuit of coaches being interviewed...

But.....fassell is in the bay area for his sons bowl game.....wonder if there is anyway that he could have met with the Raiders (unannounced)? Doubt they are fit (fassell and the Raiders) - but Fassel is a west coast guy...

Other way around.

Good catch. Major brain fart there. Mike White was the one who replaced him.
I had a feeling I should have double-checked that before I posted.

Shells record as HC there:

| 1991 rai | 9 7 0 | 0 1 |
| 1992 rai | 7 9 0 | 0 0 |
| 1993 rai | 10 6 0 | 1 1 |
| 1994 rai | 9 7 0 | 0 0 |

Actually, Shell would love to go back per Don Debacca on KDUS (who used to be w/the Raiders as a trainer/coach??)

He said he heard through the grape vine that SHell would love to go back.

Take it for what that's worth...hear say?

It wouldn't surprise me if Shell went back to the silver & black...
