Aaron Rodgers' next NFL destination is on hold for the moment. He is reportedly waiting for the Minnesota Vikings to make him an offer while also drawing interest in the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers.
That decision could take time. The Giants and the Steelers want more clarity on his intentions. Meanwhile, the saga goes on.
Rodgers could be using the Giants and Steelers to gain leverage on the Vikings but it's a gamble. It was reported this week that Rodgers would prefer to retire than to play for the Giants or Steelers.
FOX Sports midday host Colin Cowherd believes Rodgers should forget both Minnesota and Pittsburgh -- especially Pittsburgh -- and just sign with the Giants.
The reason? The Giants have all the pieces a quarterback needs to succeed: left tackle, offensive coach, electric weapons, running game, etc.
He's right. The Giants have been building a solid core of young players and veterans but simply have not been able to get the quarterback right. Rodgers could come right in and fill that void. He just isn't seeing the big picture.
Rodgers' optimal landing spot is Minnesota, a playoff team last year behind Sam Darnold (now in Seattle) who are a perfect fit for the 41-year-old future Hall-of-Famer. But they may not see him as a fit. They have last year's top pick, J.J. McCarthy, ramping up this summer and may feel they don't need to bring in such a high-profile veteran.
The Giants are a fit, too, and perhaps he'll realize that when the time comes. Whenever that is.
