We've been discussing a playoff system in the "Ball State" Thread and two possible solutions were mentioned. I think a playoff is needed, but how to make it happen and how many teams are the big debates. Here are some suggestions based on an 8 team playoff. I will post another thread with the 16 team idea. I don't think you can go less than 8 and probably shouldn't go more than 16.

The 8 Team Playoff
Seeding Based on BCS Ranking
Auto Bids for:
Big 12
ACC
Pac10
SEC
BIG EAST
BIG 10
(Highest Ranked Non BCS)

What's Good about this system?
-Shorter Post Season
-National Champ decided on the Feild
-Be Rewarded for wining your conference
-Highest Ranked Non BCS team gets Auto bid.
What's Not so good?
-Only one non BCS team can get in...
-Some conferences that have several good teams only can get one in.
-What do you do about the independants?
-Who gets the one At Large Bid?

Here's what the system would look like this year:
Conference Championships still to be played
BC Vs. Virginia Tech (ACC)
Oklahoma Vs. Missouri (Big 12)
Florida Vs. Alambama (SEC)
Penn State (Big 10)
USC (Pac 10)
Cincinnati (Big East)
Utah (Mountain West) Non BCS Auto Bid
(At Large Bid)

Projecting what will happen in conference championships and playoff games, you would get an 8 team playoff that looked like this:

1. Alabama
2. Oklahoma
3. USC
4. Utah
5. Penn State
6. Texas (At Large Bid)
7. Boston College
8. Cincinnati

First Round Games
Alamaba Vs. Cincinatti
Oklahoma vs. Boston College
USC vs.Texas
Utah vs Penn State
