Last July's release of EA Sports' 'College Football 25' video game marked the first time a major college football video game was released by the company since 2013.

The game became the highest-selling sports video game of all-time, scratching an itch 12 years in the making for fans of one of the United States' most popular sports.

The game became famous not just for its gameplay but also for its inclusion of star athletes and commentators including Kirk Herbstreit, Chris Fowler, and its trio of big name cover athletes.

On Saturday, the 2025 NFL draft concluded with one of the game's biggest stars not hearing his name called, sparking spirited fan discussion of a possible 'cover curse.'

"Did Mel Kiper pick the cover athletes?" another said.

"His last two years were not great," another fan said. "He had a few huge highlights, but every down was nothing special."

"Madden CFB curse confirmed in year one," another fan said.

"And Quinn Ewers, who was also on the cover, didn't go until the 7th round," another fan said.

The West Bloomfield, Michigan native had a career-high 991 yards rushing in 2022 but rushed for less than 600 yards last season with the Wolverines as he battled nagging injuries and starter Kalel Mullings for touches in the team's crowded backfield.
