Apr. 8—POTSDAM — Devin Fitzpatrick pitched the win in the first game and hit a pair of home runs in the second game to break a school career mark for home runs in Clarkson University's softball doubleheader sweep of SUNY Potsdam on Monday at SUNY Potsdam.
Clarkson won each game 11-1.
Fitzpatrick, a senior, hit her 15th and 16th home runs to break the mark of 15 career homers by Michele Winn for the program record. Fitzpatrick reached the record in just 277 plate appearances while Winn had 401.
In the first game, Fitzpatrick allowed four hits and one walk in five innings for her sixth win of the season. She struck out four.
Fitzpatrick added a double and single at the plate. Lexi Rydelek homered and singled and knocked in three runs. Kaya Johnson doubled and drove in a run. Zoey Kovach also drove in two runs.
In the second game, Maddie Throumoulos went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple for the Golden Knights (11-10). Bridget Kerwin tripled and drove in two runs. Amanda Corrice allowed three hits over four innings pitched for the win. Lexie Cottrill hit a double for the Bears (7-8).
OSWEGO STATE 2-0, ST. LAWRENCE 1-8
Marleigh Monroe struck out five and allowed just one hit to shut out Oswego State in the second game as St. Lawrence split a nonleague doubleheader in Canton.
The Saints (9-7) won the second game 8-0 after falling 2-1 in the first game.
Monroe added two hits and an RBI at the plate. Allison Kloft went 3-for-4 with a double in the victory, and Marina Juan also doubled and drove in two runs. Vivian Johnson added a pair of hits.
In the first game, Sofia Camillieri doubled in the Saints' first run in the seventh inning but the Lakers held on for the victory. Oswego (7-9) scored a pair of runs in the first inning on singles by Phi Mattison and Ellie Mahone. Johnson doubled and singles for St. Lawrence.
BASEBALL
SUNY PLATTSBURGH 11, CLARKSON 7
Kyle Cremin doubled, singled and drove in three runs as the Cardinals scored eight runs in the fourth inning then held on as the Golden Knights attempted to rally in a nonleague game in Plattsburgh.
Austin Caldwell added two hits and two RBIs for Plattsburgh, and Joey DiRocco knocked in two runs and reached base three times. Aidan Diltz added two hits and an RBI.
Joe Figliolino homered, doubled, singled and drove in three runs for Clarkson, which scored four runs in the seventh and three in the eighth. Beau Vardion went 2-for-3 with a double.
