College softball: Ridgewater opens with a doubleheader split

Mar. 22—BLAINE — The Ridgewater softball team opened the season late Friday with a doubleheader split.

The Warriors beat Minnesota North College-Itasca 5-4 on a walk-off RBI single by Nevaeh Rahm, then lost to the Vikings 15-3 in five innings at the M Health Fairview Dome.

Rahm, a freshman from Fairmont, knocked in the game-winner with two outs in the bottom of the seventh. She also got the complete-game win on the mound, striking out nine and walking three. She allowed five hits and four earned runs.

Ella Flick, a sophomore first baseman from Hutchinson, went 2-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI. Shakira Olson, a sophomore center fielder from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

In Game 2, Itasca scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth to break open the game. Rahm, playing first base, went 1-for-3 with a run and two RBIs. Marlee Musty, a sophomore catcher from Chatfield, was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The Warriors have two games scheduled for Friday at Rochester Regional Stadium and Bubble. Ridgewater plays Minnesota North College-Rainy River at 2 p.m. and then plays Itasca at 4 p.m. The Warriors then play two more games Saturday, facing Minnesota North-Vermilion at 1 p.m. and Central Lakes College at 3 p.m.
