Every offseason is an offseason of change in modern college sports.

This one more than most for the Colorado State men's basketball team.

The Rams finished the 2024-25 season in the second round of the NCAA Tournament after winning the Mountain West. Since then, coach Niko Medved has departed for the same role at Minnesota and Ali Farokhmanesh has been promoted from top assistant to CSU's head coach.

The transfer portal is now flying and a number of Rams have entered, while CSU will also be adding many new players.

Here's a look at the players who have left and are joining the CSU men's basketball team this offseason following the appearance in the 2025 NCAA Tournament:

This will be updated as players depart or join Colorado State.

Players potentially leaving Colorado State men's basketball program

Here is a look at the players who may be leaving the CSU men's basketball program via transfer or graduation:

PLAYERS IN THE TRANSFER PORTAL TO POTENTIALLY LEAVE CSU

Kyan Evans

  • Position: Point guard
  • Notable: The 6-foot-2 point guard averaged 10.6 points and 3.1 assists per game in 2024-25 as a sophomore in his first season as a starter. He hit six 3-pointers in a first-round win over Memphis. Evans shot 45% from 3-point range on the season and had at least one 3-pointer in each of the final 15 games of the season. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining. Evans is the lone player in the portal who has yet to be removed from CSU's online roster for the 2025-26 season.

Jaylen Crocker-Johnson

  • Position: Forward
  • Notable: The 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward averaged nine points and 4.4 rebounds a game in 2024-25. He started 29 of CSU's 36 games. Crocker-Johnson came to CSU after being named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year while at Little Rock in 2023-24. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Keshawn Williams

  • Position: Guard
  • Notable: The 6-foot-4 graduate student played with CSU for the 2024-25 season after spending three seasons at Northern Illinois and one at Tulsa. Williams averaged 5.1 points per game and shot 37% from 3-point range while playing 13.6 minutes per game off the bench for the Rams. He has one season of eligibility remaining.

Jaden Steppe

  • Position: Forward
  • Notable: The 6-foot-8, 220-pound Steppe played in a limited reserve role in 2024-25, appearing in seven games for 12 total minutes. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Luke Murphy

  • Position: Guard
  • Notable: A walk-on with the Rams, Murphy was a scout team player and saw minutes in 12 total games over the last two seasons.

Out of eligibility: Nique Clifford, Bowen Born, Jalen Lake and Ethan Morton all concluded their college eligibility with the 2024-25 season.

Transfers joining the Colorado State men's basketball team

Carey Booth

  • Position: Forward
  • Notable: The 6-foot-10 Booth plans to transfer from Illinois to CSU. He played in 21 minutes and scored just over a point a game in limited (5.6 minutes per game) action. Booth played his freshman (2023-24) season at Notre Dame, where he had 19 starts in 33 games. Booth averaged 6.1 points and 4.5 rebounds in ACC play as a freshman. The former four-star recruit has two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The Rams are expected to add several more transfers.

Colorado State men's basketball scholarship count

Division I men's basketball teams can have a maximum of 13 scholarship players (although that could change soon with various court rulings working their way through the system). Here's CSU's 2025-26 count right now (current as of April 2), with a note on their eligibility status entering next season:

  • Guard Darnez Slater: Will be a redshirt freshman.
  • Wing Jon Mekonnen: Will be a redshirt freshman.
  • Forward Rashaan Mbemba: Will be a junior.
  • Center Nikola Djapa: Will be a junior.
  • Forward Kyle Jorgensen: Will be a sophomore.
  • Guard JoJo McIver: Will be a true freshman.
  • Wing Docker Tedeschi: Will be a true freshman.
  • Forward Carey Booth: Will be a junior.

That currently leaves CSU with five scholarship spots to fill, likely with at least a couple as potential starters.

Redshirt sophomore Charlie Dortch is a walk-on with the Rams and doesn't count toward the scholarship limit.
