With the Indianapolis Colts having a need at tight end, a popular pick in many mock drafts is Michigan's Colston Loveland, considered by many to be the best pure pass-catching tight end in this year's draft class.

After the 2024 season, GM Chris Ballard mentioned that the Colts needed more in the passing game from the tight end position. This was a unit that collectively totaled only 467 passing yards last year, the lowest of any tight end unit in the NFL.

"Our inability to control the middle of the field," said Ballard, "which we've gotta be able to do, I’ve got to be able to give Shane [Steichen] and them a guy that can really control the middle of the field, that teams have to account for and defend.”

Adding Loveland to the offense would certainly bring that pass-catching element. He can line up in the slot or outside and can attack all levels of the field and do so in a variety of ways. Beyond his own production, having that skill set at the tight end position can open up opportunities for others to exploit as well.

For more on Loveland, here is a snippet of what NFL.com's Lance Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft report:

"Talented young tight end with the athletic ability and ball skills to become an elite talent as a pass catcher. Colston plays the game like a big wideout, capable of separating from man coverage and making plays on all three levels."

Below you can find highlights of Loveland during his time at Michigan:
