In the latest three-round NFL mock draft from Josh Edwards of CBS Sports, the Indianapolis Colts passed on tight end Tyler Warren and added to the trenches in Rounds 2 and 3.

I like adding to the offensive and defensive lines, but I am not a fan of passing on Warren. Let's break it all down.

Pick 14: Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan

Edwards had the Colts passing on Warren and taking Colston Loveland at pick No. 14.

The Colts need a much greater pass-catching presence at tight end, and Loveland is considered the best pure pass-catching tight end prospect in this year's draft. So naturally, this seems to be a good fit--and it can be.

However, with Warren's do-it-all type skill set, I think he's a better fit for Shane Steichen's offense. If the Colts are fortunate enough to have both Loveland and Warren available when picking, my guess is they will go with Warren.

"Indianapolis has made it known that Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones will compete for the starting quarterback position," Edwards wrote. "The Colts have invested heavily in that wide receiver room, but make Colston Loveland the face of a newly renovated tight end corps."

Pick 45: Donovan Jackson, OT/G, Ohio State

The Colts have to bolster their interior depth, and creating a competition for the swing tackle role off the bench should be on the to-do list as well--not to mention that competition at right guard wouldn't be a bad thing either. If the Colts are going to find any sort of sustained success on offense, the offensive line play has to be good and there are some unknowns right now.

Most of Jackson's college snaps came at guard, but he did play left tackle last season as well. As a guard during the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Jackson allowed just three combined sacks during that span and only 23 total pressures. He graded out well in the run game by PFF's metrics as well.

Pick 80: CJ West, IDL, Indiana

The depth behind DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart has to improve. Last year, the Colts didn't get nearly enough from Raekwon Davis and Taven Bryan. Hopefully, the addition of Neville Gallimore helps, but that shouldn't be assumed either.

West is listed at 6-2 - 317 pounds, and he's a fairly experienced player with almost 2,000 career defensive snaps. In his one season at Indiana, West had a career-high 25 pressures, but he's been at his best against the run, where he's graded out as one of PFF's top interior run defenders in each of the last two seasons.
