The Washington Commanders do not necessarily need a veteran linebacker for 2025. The Commanders recently re-signed future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner, ensuring Washington runs it back with the linebacker combo of Wagner and Frankie Luvu.
However, general manager Adam Peters always likes a good deal. Several free agents are still available who can help the Commanders and the 31 other teams. One of those free agents is linebacker Kyzir White. The 6-foot-2, 234-pound White enters his seventh NFL season in 2025 after spending the past two years with the Arizona Cardinals.
Cory Woodroof of For the Win recently matched 20 available free agents with NFL teams and linked White to Washington.
White is a good player. He's a hard-hitting, physical player who head coach Dan Quinn would love. He's also reliable. Woodroof did not mention that current Washington running backs coach Anthony Lynn was White's first NFL head coach with the Chargers and loves him. The Commanders are about familiarity. They trust players with whom they have prior relationships.
Woodroof also mentioned that Washington could line White next to Wagner and Luvu. Here's the thing: the Commanders rarely play three traditional linebackers. White could excel under Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt's tutelage, but Washington will likely focus on other positions.
There's a lot to like about White being a possible match for the Commanders, but it's unlikely. With other holes, it's doubtful that Washington will sign another veteran linebacker. Luvu and Wagner rarely came off the field last season. In 2025, the Commanders would be wise to cut back on Wagner's snaps to keep him fresh, but that would mean more time for Jordan Magee.

The Commanders could continue bringing in free agents with White, who could slot next to Bobby Wagner and Frankie Luvu and give Washington a formidable trio at linebacker.
