Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn has a specific type of player he looks for, especially on defense. Quinn often talks about finding "Commanders," or "dogs." One of the players Quinn loved during the lead-up to the 2024 NFL draft was cornerback Mike Sainristil. Washington would use a second-round pick on Sainristil, and he quickly became one of its top defensive players.

Has Quinn and the Commanders identified a similar cornerback ahead of the 2025 NFL draft?

Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported that the Commanders were in Louisville this week for pro day. Washington was showing the most interest in cornerback Quincy Riley. Pauline noted that the Commanders will use one of their Top 30 visits on Riley.

Washington has reportedly met with the 5-foot-11, 194-pound Riley multiple times, including at the Senior Bowl. Riley had an impressive week in front of NFL teams during Senior Bowl week.

Riley helped himself further at the NFL combine, running the 40-yard dash in 4.48 seconds. While Riley doesn't have one trait that stands out, he does everything well. He can play inside or outside and play man or zone coverage equally. Riley is physical at the line of scrimmage and has good recovery speed. He also has ball skills. After beginning his career at Middle Tennessee, Riley played at Louisville for the last three seasons, totaling eight interceptions.

Washington needs another starting-caliber cornerback. With Riley, he wouldn't need to be an immediate starter with Marshon Lattimore, Sainristil, Jonathan Jones and Noah Igbinoghene in front of him. However, he could be excellent depth for next season and eventually take over as one of the starting corners.

Riley is a player to watch for Washington during next month's NFL draft. The Commanders meeting with a player this often expresses significant interest. Ultimately, it's all about where GM Adam Peters has Riley on his board.
