The Washington Commanders need pass-rushing help. However, unlike the team's fans, general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn are not panicking. Remember, we are only a week into free agency and a month away from the 2025 NFL draft.
You can bet Peters and Quinn have a plan. What if that plan involves UCLA edge rusher Femi Oladejo? Oladejo isn't a name you've heard mentioned often regarding first-round edge rushers. Names like Adbul Carter, James Pearce, Donovan Ezeiruaku, Mike Green, Nic Scourton, Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker, and Shemar Stewart have received far more hype; NFL teams know all about Oladejo.
Oladejo began his career at Cal, playing there for two years before spending his two final collegiate seasons at UCLA. A linebacker-turned-edge rusher, Oladejo finished his college career with only six sacks. However, the 6-foot-3, 259-pound Oladejo is an ascending player. In 2024, Oladejo recorded 4.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss. His length and athleticism has NFL teams drooling, including Washington.
Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda reported that Peters and Quinn were in Los Angeles for Oladejo's pro day. To bring all of your top decision-makers when you're not picking a quarterback means there is some serious interest. Ryan Fowler of the Draft Network followed up Pauline's report that Oladejo was in Ashburn on Tuesday for a Top 30 visit.
Oladejo has at least 10 Top 30 visits, which shows that the interest in him is real. He enjoyed a great Senior Bowl week and a strong NFL combine. Oladejo sneaking into the first round is a real possibility. His versatility and developing edge traits likely have Quinn dreaming of ways to use him. Even better, Oladejo is only 21 years old.
When evaluating Oladejo, don't look at the stats. He's an ascending talent, and that's evident in his senior highlights.
