Washington Commanders general manager Adam Peters continues adding depth to the trenches. On Tuesday, Washington signed offensive tackle Foster Sarell to a one-year deal. Sarell joins five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil and veteran Nate Herbig as new additions to Washington's offensive line.

The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Sarell entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2021. After failing to land with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Giants, Sarell signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He spent four seasons with Los Angeles, appearing in 35 games and making three starts. Sarell has filled in mostly at right tackle, but can also play left tackle.

The 26-year-old Sarell was a former five-star recruit out of high school who committed to Stanford. There, he played for current Washington quarterback coach Tavita Pritchard. Herbig was a college teammate of Sarell's with the Cardinal.

Tunsil is Washington's new left tackle. Brandon Coleman, last year's rookie left tackle, will either move to left guard or right tackle next season. Andrew Wylie, who started at right tackle the past two seasons, will remain at right tackle, or move inside to right guard until Sam Cosmi's return from knee surgery.

Sarell will likely compete with veteran Trent Scott to be the Commanders' swing tackle. Cornelius Lucas held that role for the last five years but departed last week for a two-year deal with the Cleveland Browns.
