Yeah it looks like we are gonna go thru CoJack's (Used courtesy of Arizona's Finest) growing pains at 1B. I guess I can live with an error that hits his glove but his mental errors are just frustrating. No one else stops playing because the 1B umpire calls someone safe & you don't agree with him, finish the play then argue with the umpire!

Give the guy a break we all knew he wasn't up to par defensively. Thus his moves to 3rd, OF, 1st. He is here because he can hit, guaranteed some team out there would jump on him if they had a chance.

It would be good if he actually started to hit. His whopping .267 avg coupled with his poor defense and poor power make for a crappy corner infielder.

Conor = crap.....for now.

Umm. Unless he was pitching, Conor didn't have a whole lot to do with the loss. You can't blame the entire lack of offense on him alone. I am not saying he is good, but this team has plenty of problems starting to show now that the pitching is wavering a little. The offense has always been anemic, but if the pitching goes too now, look out.

But I wasn't there. :) So kudos for going - as long as you were rooting for the DBacks. ;)

Of course I was rooting for the Dbacks!! I wasn't blaming the lack of offense on anyone. I was blaming Conor for his complete ineptness at first base...(hence the title of the thread ;) )

There seems to be a belief among fans and management that you can put your poorest fielder at 1B, because he can't cause too much harm.

The first baseman is there to receive throws from five of the eight other players on the field. If your 1B is poor defensively or, as in CoJack's case, simply careless, the infielders, P and C will become tentative in throwing to him.

Eventually they'll shy away from trying to make a great play, knowing that their 1B won't be able to handle it.

And if your Cy Young pitcher is a sinkerball/ground ball pitcher, oh boy.

Tony Clark is a much more dependable fielder. Even Chad Tracy is a better fielding 1B that Jackson.

Move Conor Jackson to an AL team as DH (he doesn't have a position at which he is even an adequate fielder), move Tracy to 1B and give Mark Reynolds the 3B job (especially now that he making adjustments to his first time around).

Conor Jackson at 1B is hurting the D'backs.

Am I the only one here who thinks that Jackson's defense is more mind over lack of ability?

Since Arizona drafted him, the guy has been penciled in at LF, 3B, RF and 1B. Blame the farm system, blame whatever you want to blame but me? I think that the more this guy gets comfortable with the position as a regular starter, the less the mental lapses will hapen. Granted, he'll never be lining up the Gold Gloves on his shelf, but his bat is already making up for it and he's only going to get better with that as well.

I think some of you, with due respect, are jumping on to the "let's trade him and give Reynolds the job" bandwagon WAY too quickly.

Mark McGwire could barely bend over to get routine grounders at the end of his career.. Didn't stop him from knocking the piss out of the ball.

Oh and one more thing, DH not withstanding.. Ask the Minnesota Twins if they could do over the Ortiz or Mekewicz decision.. Guarantee you their decision would be made quickly and emphatically.

Even though he was a 3rd baseman in college, I don't think Jackson has played any RF or 3B since he was drafted (and if he did it isn't more than a couple innings). However, I do believe that Jackson's defense (which has been way, way overstated on this board) is a matter of experience over anything else considering he hadn't played first base at all until a few years ago.

Fans blame. Management should be resolving.

What is the situation going forward? It seems to be that Conor Jackson in the field is -- let's be kind and say -- casual.

That's not acceptable.
