:( What an Offense Lineman, in the "70's" when he was guarding for Jim Hart he would "leg whip, tackle, what ever it took", to keep his man away from the QB, that was Conrad. I read the article on Dobler in the Republic and the problems he is having. If any one knows if there is a fund starting to help him financially let us old time Card fans know. He, may have played for "Buffalo", but he will always be a Cardinal :cards: .

I heard something about his wife having problems but have not heard any details. Can you elaborate on the story.

I saw a story on ESPN about Conrad Dobbler. His wife fell out of a hammock a few years ago and has been paralyzed. He has spent most of his life savings helping her recover and paying for the additional costs required to help her live her life.

It was a very interesting story. The reporter pointed out several times that Conrad was known as the dirtiest player in the NFL.

Found this on ESPN as Dobler was listed as one of the top 10 "villains" in sports. I was only a little kid when he played, but I can't image the Card having something that tough.

6. Conrad Dobler
The offensive lineman for the Cardinals, Saints and Bills in the 1970s and early '80s received the dubious honor of topping Page 2's list of dirtiest pro team players ever last year. He was a true villain who didn't care who he hurt, or how he hurt them. For example, he was so well known for biting (sound familiar?) that the Vikings requested rabies shots before playing against him. His unabashed dirty play resulted in several rules changes: no blocking a windpipe -- said Dobler, "When I hit a guy, I'll hit him in the throat ... he doesn't have any pads on his throat" -- and no leg whips.

Dobler got off cheap shots against Merlin Olsen and Mean Joe Greene -- in the Pro Bowl -- and Lions linebacker Charlie Weaver, among countless others.

But the cheapest, most juvenile of all came at the end of a 1974 game against the Giants, when the opposing players were shaking hands as the clock wound down. When Giant Jim Pietrzak attempted this ritual of sportsmanship, wishing Dobler good luck in the playoffs, Dobler punched him in the throat.

That story makes it all sound one sided. Players on both sides played dirty, tough and mean. Story about either Lambert or Ham trying to bite a running back even though he had no teeth in front. Dobler in particular said the biting wrap was unfair. There was some famous player whose name escapes me that was trying to bite him. Unfortunately the way things are in this country there is no "truth" anymore. The truth is just one partisan's side of the events. Look at the defenders of Nixon if you dont believe me. That has to be one of the most black and white incidents in my life but yet we still have partisan versions of the "truth".

Is Jack Tatum on that list? Dobler never paralyzed anyone with an unecceassarily hard hit in a pre-season game?

Dobler had talent. He would not have been a ProBowler or played as long as he did if he just made it by cheap shots. I think all the cheap shot talk takes away from recognition of his talent and determination.
