Cooper Kupp didn’t need much time to decide which team he wanted to play for next after being cut by the Los Angeles Rams. He chose the Seattle Seahawks, returning home to the Pacific Northwest where he’s from.
Not only did he get the chance to head back to his roots, but he also has the opportunity to face his former team twice a year. During his introductory press conference on Tuesday, he shared his thoughts on facing the Rams each season as one of the team’s biggest rivals.
It wasn’t a motivating factor in his free agency decision, but he admits he’s looking forward to playing his former teammates and coaches.
“Yeah, I am. I am looking forward to it,” he said. “That didn’t play into the decision to come here, but it was a nice little thing on the side to be able to go against those guys. So much respect for the coaching staff, the way that they handle things down there, the players down there. I am excited about it, though It’s going to be a really cool thing. When that time comes, it’ll just be football at that point. But I am looking forward to it.”
While the Rams will have some new faces in 2025, Kupp will be familiar with most of the roster and coaching staff. Sean McVay, Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua, Tutu Atwell, Mike LaFleur and Eric Yarber will all still be there, so Kupp will probably be excited to see them whenever the Rams and Seahawks square off.
Every player would probably be excited to face his former team like Kupp is, especially given the way things ended in L.A. Kupp didn’t seem very happy about the Rams’ plans to trade him, saying publicly in his announcement on social media that he didn’t agree with the decision.
He believes he’s still an “ascending player” and he’ll get a chance to show the Rams that twice a year now.
